New 408's
« on: January 16, 2010, 11:50:52 PM »

Had no idea just how bad my tires were cupping on my SERG until I rode with the replacements today... wow, it's not the same bike. (u were right JC)

Had 7k miles on them and the front had gotten pretty bad... Moco replaced 100% of the front no questions. Got 50% for the rear but well worth it. Rides like a different bike... and glad I got a good ride in today since it looks like rain for the next 6-7 days here in Nor Cal.

Snapped a few pix of my ride today but not the tires... you've seen plenty of those anyway. :)

The best way to tell is to close your eyes (or look away from the tire), focusing just on feel.  Lightly run the palm of your hand around the radius of the tire tread.  Is it smooth or does it feel like there's little edge catching on your hand?  If you feel the little raised ridges, your tire is cupping.

When you take it in be sure to tell them that there's vibration and handling issues on the front.  If it's a D407F it will get replaced for free (they cover the labor, also).

HARLEY HAD LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT A BAD HANDLE BAR WOBBLE AND LINKED IT TO THE NEW DUNLOPS. THEY REVISED THEM AND WILL WARRANTY FOR ANYBODY THAT COMPLAINS. IF YOU LOOK AT THE REPLACEMENT FRONT THEY REVERSED THE DIRECTION OF THE TREAD TOO !

That could be warped rotors.  Are you applying front and back equally, at the same time?  Do you have ABS?
