2009 CVO RG seat and backrest question
« on: January 18, 2010, 10:47:38 PM »

Hey all- couple quick questions, if I may :

- is the stock small backrest able to be attached to a four point detachable hardware kit?

- will a Mustang seat work with the stock backrest ? (the one piece smooth touring seat)

Thanks in advance

I agree with 04se103. If you are asking about the passenger backrest. Here is a shot of my 2009 with the stock passenger backrest on a 4 point mount and a H-D stealth luggage rack.
I don't know about the Mustang seat though.

Here's the Mustage Solo seat along with the 11" passenger pillon and a little taller detachable backrest rack than the stock one (I can't seem to find the receipt for the part # of the new backrest rack) with the stock SERG CVO back rest pad. I hope I explained this okay  :-\

This is how the bike looks 95% of the time with just the Mustage Solo seat with back rest  :2vrolijk_21:      Jim

thanks Jim- so since you had to replace the stock backrest with a taller one, I assume the stock one didn't clear it?

Is that backrest a HD part ?

Is that backrest a HD part ?

Notice the Mustage pillon is thicker than the stock seat, so I needed a taller backrest rack in order for it to actually be functional. And yes, the new backrest rack is an HD part.

thanks Jim- sorry, another related question- I know you just buy the upright by itself (I'm seeing Harley just loves to sell things seperately  ::)), so I would re-use the stock CVO pad, but by looking at pictures, it looks like the CVO has a chrome decorative bracket on the back that you would also transfer over to the new backrest- is this right?

I'm asking because I was considering the black one, but if I am seeing a plate on the back, I would want to tranfer that over as well, so would probably get the chrome one.

Thanks again!

Correct, you would transfer the chrome decorative bracket on the back over to the new backrest. I too wanted the pieces blacked out, so this last Monday, I took both pieces to a shop to get them powder coated black along with the 3 torque screws. I also took my solo rack and engine guards to get blacked out. If I get the parts back this week, I'll post pictures by this Sunday. Jim

thx Jim...careful about starting to black things out, once you start, I've seen a lot of guys that can't stop.

I always thought the engine guards would look better blacked out, especially the stock ones since they are too big looking, so if/when I get the bike, I would get the Lindby guards- I like those a lot, and haven't seen many with them.

I agree 100%. I'm trying to find the perfect balance. I bought another 09 engine guard for $30.00 to get blacked out...I too think it will look better, but just incase, I'll have the original chrome set also. After the engine guard, the detachable passenger backrest (which is rarely on the bike) and solo rack I'm stopping.  Jim
