2007 SERK - Burns Oil
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:13:03 AM »

I purchased my 07 SERK in October, 2006. I'm one of the few unfortunates that experienced the ramifications of the rear head gasket leak at around 2000 miles when the rear valve broke. HD repaired the scoot at no charge. When the recall came out I went ahead and HD do it.

That said:
I've noticed that it burns oil at the rate of about 1qt every 2000 miles. Is this the norm? Does anyone else experience this?
I would go on 3000 mile trips with my Heritage (88ci evo) and it NEVER was low on oil.
Any advice?

If you ask the MoCo they will say that is half the allowable burn rate.  My '07 is the second vehicle I've EVER had to add oil to between changes, the other being a '64 Chevy II with a 230 engine in which one could literally see daylight around the pistons when I pulled it.  I seriously doubt you will get them to do anything about it; just another aspect of the first POS 110 engines.

Hell of a first post ;-).

I have the same bike and it burns a little more oil than yours. In the old days a quart per 1,000 miles was considered to be the norm, so I am not overly concerned because I know the problems of the early 110's. Just make sure you change your oil regularly, and the filter as well. Having said that, I doubt that you could really do anything to lower the oil consumption on that series of 110's.

And when you write "few unfortunates", I'd say that there is hardly a 2007 110 to be found without any issues. And even some early 2008 as well.

Ride safely,
Louis

I bought my 07 in Sept. 06, it would use little less than 1/2 qt. by the 5,000 mile service, after the recall it will use the same at 3,000 miles. :nixweiss:
