Lowering my CVO springer
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:05:48 PM »

Just curious.>My last bike i had to buy the lowering kit. I was told the 09 springer is adjustable from factory. Just curious if this is true and what the easiest way of going about it is. I'm 150 lbs..Not to worried about bottoming out. Thanks guys!

Thanks for your help! I just want the fender to hug the tire a bit more in the back. I will probablly just end up buying the lowering kit cause i doubt the stock shocks will let me bring it down enough for that rear fender to sit a bit lower ya know.?

you can lower it down till the frame sits on the ground - thats as low as you can go...

nder 3 inches you cant ride very fast because you cant lean it over to turn.  :o

a stock rigid frame has about 5" of clearance

a custom rigid frame usually has 3 to 4" of clearance. look careful at, say, a 48 frame - the line from the neck to the seat post to the wheel is NOT straight - guys used a saw and welder to lower the frame to make it straight - then made the front end longer to get the clearance back so it would turn - i saw lots of guys doing that in the 70's install a weld on hard tail or struts and then keep adding to the front end till it quits scraping.. they rode terrible and cornered worse - my stock 79 sporty rode circles around the big twins... but i was careful to back off as to not offend them by making them look bad.

there are struts available for soft tails that just replace the shocks with a bar with a adjuster - that will let you set it at 3 or 4 inches and it wont get low enough that you cant turn. - the stock bike will still run circles around the lowered bike. there are companies now making rigid frames for twin cam softails - those will be very low but still corner ok since the rear wheel wont move.

Ive seen softails with an air system that drops the ass end almost right on the ground, takes a shorty kick stand. Looks bad ass to look at parked, you flip a switch, it comes back up to ride away. Looks factory. I think you can run it lowered, but almost no ground clearance.

Your bike should already have the lowering kit, part of CVO Springer package.

I'm in the process of lowering my CVO Springer 2009, and my dealer, after having checked, told me that I'll need a lowering kit as the stock configuration has no kit pre-installed.

Be careful on the first mid to high speed corners, they handle a-lot different after lowering, especially 2 up!!

Hi Anthony,

Waow! This new aspect is terrific! By how much did you lowered it? How is the ride sensation after the operation? Way much stiffer?
