But why then has it only just started to happen?

Perhaps you just did not noticed it before i guess . The clunk allways was (and will be)there i would say .

A friend of mine in the know says every time they put low profile fork internals on a glide, O E or progressive, the front usually clunks, mine does with low profile suspension from new, and ive tried 3 different weights of oil, still clunks, nature of the beast I guess!!!!....Can't explain why the clunk is there with std length suspension though, Id try what everyone else has suggested though as a starting point :bananarock: :bananarock:

FIXED. The 'Clunk' is gone. I new it wasn't normal (as some have suggested). The bike went in for its 8,000km service and I insisted they check the fork neck bearings. F... knows what they did or adjusted but the Clunk has gone. Alleluha.

It would be nice to know what they did!

They apparrently readjusted the bearings to 'original spec'.

Not sure how they got out of original spec. I havn't hit any potholes. Maybe just from normal wear they can get out of spec. Anyway the lesson here is don't listen to anyone who tells you a 'clunk' is normal, it just isn't.

I am really glad I came across this website - my 2009 SE Fat Bob had it's first service yesterday and all was good until a ride this morning and noticed a "clunk" in the front end. After reading this thread, jacked up the front wheel and there is a slight amount of play in the neck bearingswhen I lift up on the wheel. Apparently it came from the factory like that since it only has 1200 miles on it. Thanks to everyone for their comments on this.

The front end just didnt feel right, wobble at slow speed especially when turning. Lubed the steering head bearings (100 pumps to get it to show) and it has helped a little. Checked the bearing nut the best I could with fairing on appeared tight. :nixweiss:
