How can I help?
« on: January 15, 2006, 05:06:00 PM »

Folks,
I have just finished sending a note to J.C. His thread about the "lurkers" caught my attention. I must confess that I feel quilty about the wealth of knowledge that is availible in this site. Without it, I would not be nearly as happy with my Autumn Haze. My guilt is that I have not returned what I have gained.

Probably two reasons for me doing this. One is that I ride in South Texas and we are in the peak season for great riding...not jabbing, because we will pay for it in the summer. I am spending all time possible on the Haze.
Second reason, is that this is the first ride I have had in over 20 years. I have rediscovered the joy of motorcycle riding. But my vault of knowlege to share with you is limited.

Again, this site has been wonderful. How can I and others like me share and help? I have lurked and used the info for great gain. I would like to give back, just let me know how.

Ken

a  [smiley=drink.gif] and a handshake should you meet up with a moderator on the road is a great way to say thanks. the other way is to become a more active poster. the first time a question is asked that you can be the first to reply to is a great feeling

Alright Ken.......kuddos to you for taking the suggestion on the plunge in here.  And now you're initiated and this is exactly how it works.  You may be the catylist that helps another "lurker" feel like taking the plunge and stepping off in here.

We're happy that you enjoy this site and we're happy that you are here! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Hey Ken,  Looks like you got my Haze!    :P
I'm in Austin, and I put a deposit on mine back in August.

So, even though HD has my money and I don't yet have my SEUC, I have still managed to post a few good things.

I making plans for the Cripple Creek, CO trip.  I'm just hoping that I'll have my bike by then and have had enough time to break it in.

So, just keep reading and thinking and you'll eventually be posting like the rest of us.

And, Naitram is right.  It is a good feeling when you can contribute!

Welcome to the site!

Bigmanken,
Welcome to the site. I would think it's normal for some to just read and feel out the crowd before jumping in (at least it was that way for me). Once you get familiar and get to know some of the folks here, you will feel like you've known them forever and jump right in on the threads. For me even though I've only met a couple of the people on this site in person I feel that I know a lot of the members personally just from reading there posts. Heck, I even know what kind of beer the majority of them like, "cold" just like me. [smiley=drink.gif]

Thanks everyone for the reply. Especially the moderators for the the work you do. I look forward to contributing to the forum. I have several questions and will toss them out there as time goes by.

Seuc-Ocd... I know you are anxious, I was. Even though I am in the Corpus Christi area, I ended ordering the Haze from a dealer up the road in Temple. It was suppose to ship in late August, but was delayed 2-3 times.
When I finally got the call that it had arrived, my excitement was short lived. I received another call a couple of hours later and told that the bike inside the crate was not my haze! MoCo had packaged incorrectly. My haze was sitting at a dealership in New York. I give my dealer credit, they yanked chains and had the haze within about 10 days.

Anyway, be patient. Clear a spot in the bedroom for her (your haze). That is where something that gorgeous belongs. I hope to get to ride  up around Leakey (Texas Hill country for you snowbirds) soon. Maybe we will cross paths someday.

Bigmanken....Enjoy the winter rides in beautiful South Texas.  Having spent about 20 years in the Corpus area, I know why you want to take advantage of every winter moment you can on the new "Haze".  If, you get the chance, I, and I'm sure others would appreciate some pics of your bike and some pics from Padre all the way up through the Hill Country.  Just doesn't get much better than that.  Start thinking about joining the "Texas contingent" for the trip to Maggie Valley in the fall.  You might want to contact MWhite if you're interested.  Best of luck and glad to have you here.

West Texas Hill Country- - - that's where I can only see 40 miles in any direction as opposed to 200 right. I always thought of it as the rim of the fryin pan.  (Been there in August dude) And also I love that crude oil smell too.   Welcome to the site Glad to hear you're a born again rider. Hope the down years weren't too hard on you.

Drink when you're thirsty

Love a good woman

[highlight] Might want to take another pass at geography, the Hill Country is located predominantly within a 75 mile radius of Austin, which is located in South Central Texas.  About, oh....950 miles from West Texas.

Just makin a joke dude - - - you know to make the new/old guy feel welcome. Sorry to disturb your Hank Hill sensibilities

Actually guys, when you ride in South Texas... after passing the fire ant mounds, you have entered the "hill country". It is flat down here!!
