Anyone know how to get around the long process of reinstalling the latest map versions on the zumo if you already did it but want to put the new map on another computer? I like to have the latest map on my desktop but also on my laptop when I travel with my motorcycle. I haven't figured out a way to bypass the installation on the zumo again just to get the new map on the laptop. Running the latest map program forces you to install the map on the zumo again (at least a half hour process).

I don't know the answer to that, but I found last night that after I reloaded the new update that I'm rapidly running out of space on the device.

I sent off to Garmin for a solution and also spoke to d00d...

"I updated my software tonight, the last update left me 43MB of free space on the device, now after this update I am left with 29MB of free space. I have deleted all the extra voices etc. that were in the unit to free up space, when I do the next update will I run out of room on the Zumo? What next? Thanks",

Garmin sent me this response :


Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
  
If you run out of memory on the device, the map update program will automatically detect that there isn't enough space for the full update.
At this point the program will ask you to install a region of the North American map on the internal memory of the unit.  

After this, you can use a program called MapInstall, which is installed on your computer during the first update, to install the rest of the mapping to your own SD memory card.  I have attached a help guide that shows you how to use the Mapinstall program.  After the leftover maps are transferred to the SD card, then the unit will read maps off of its internal memory and the SD memory card (inserted into the unit) at the same time.  Please let me know if you have more questions.

I just recently this out from garmin  when I contacted them on another matter. That did not sit well with me I use my card reader to play all my music. The rep I spoke to did tell me it will give you the option to delete Canada,Hawaii, and I think Puerto Rico is in there as well guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Since I have never tried this I can't verify, but this has been stated on the Zumo Forum...

Just disconnect the Zumo after it's started building the maps and it'll give you an option to cancel when it can't find the Zumo.

So what I'm thinking is once it recognizes that you have a legitimate Zumo to get (install) the map update you then disconnect it and it loads to computer.

Also remember that updates are not mandatory.  Look at what is contained in the update.  Do you need it?  Have you deleted all the voices and files that you don't need on your Zumo/Garmin?  Just food for thought......

That kinda info would be great in a sticky, its been over a year since I updated the map software and I don't remember all the steps to update.

I do agree to see what the differences are between the 2009 and 2010 update provides.
