Front End Hammering
« on: January 27, 2010, 03:07:38 PM »

On my 09 SEUC the front feels like its hammering / vibrating (up & down) not side to side under slighty heavy front brake application . Not heavy enough though to kick in ABS 4k miles never had this before ? what do you reckon

1.   Check the front tire for cupping, which was/is a significant problem with the D407F tires.  If the tire is cupped, have the dealer replace it under warranty.  (See previous threads on the problem by searching for "D407")

2.   If the tire is OK, have the dealership update the calibration for the ABS system.  Harley came out with a bulletin and updated calibration to address various issues, one of which is premature ABS activation during threshhold braking.

3.   Check brake rotors for runout.  This has also been a fairly widespread problem.

That was my line too the brake lever does not pulse so i wasn`t expecting rotor runout. There could be slight cupping is it that sensitive ? I have seen the 407 articles so is this what cupping feels like.
Thanks for the reply.
