Big City Thunder Header Baffle
« on: January 28, 2010, 06:13:55 PM »

Just thought I'd share my experience with my recent header installation of the BCT Header Baffle. I have only had it in for 2 days and about 50 miles of riding, so this is just a "seat of the pants" review. Also this is on a mostly stock FXDSE except for the XIED.
I purchased the BCT quiet baffle for head pipe installation and it arrived two days later with my complimentary T-shirt. It is nothing ore that a piece of pipe with a washer type baffle welded in the center, with a conical screen on the end. My first trial I had it installed without any baffle in the muffler which is approx 3" in diameter. All I can say is this thing is loud, I would hate to hear the non quiet baffle. I think I lost a hair on the very low end, which was expected. I did however like the sound quality, for the most part. The problem for me was around 3k RPM it produced a very hard on the ears "resonance". I can't explain the sound as it was more of an unheard thing but it was awful cut right to the bone, fortunately it quickly went away and it was only at speeds low enough to hear the exhaust.
Because it was so loud I had to do something about it, so off to Advance Auto Parts I went. For about $15 dollars I picked up 2 1.75" exhaust extensions. The flared end slipped right into the can almost perfectly, all I had to do next was cut it to length. I cut the end cap off my stock baffles and slid the pipe into the end of it. A little JB Weld and wallah! With this set up it is perfect, for me anyway. The low end loss is gone. The sound is the same just a lower volume and most importantly that 3K "resonance" is gone. I must say that I am quite happy with the results and for the cash I laid out I couldn't ask for more. I have the sound I want and still looks good. It do does have some decel popping  but I don't mind that at all.

Now I did not have it dynoed so who knows what the real effect was but I cant tell any difference maybe a little better. In the end I would recommend these to anybody who might be thinking of buying these especially if your on a budget or want to keep the stock exhaust.

Maybe one day I can afford to buy a TTS that I have always wanted. :2vrolijk_21:
