Hi there,
Actually I may be a bit of a help. We loved to have a Jeep as a second car for quite some time. But the older models were simply too small for a German soccer mom and all her duties. As soon as the 4 door came ought and was been offered here we bought a pretty loaded Wrangler unlimited Sahara.
Now about two and a half years and 22000 mls later I can assure you we would do it again.
My wife and my daughter love the car (here in Germany it is relatively rare and is been seen as a very cooool car especially for a chick) 8).
up: reliable, unbreakable, image, cargo and towing capacity, surprisingly good sound system, dual tops
down: lousy mileage (about 17 mls per gallon), do not get confused and enter a German Autobahn with it, pretty noisy inside.

All in all a fun ride who forgives you any WalMart parking lot accidents (if she would handle my Merc that way .... it would stretch my love and understanding a bit  :D )
To answer your question. Go for it.

Thanks, I think we are going to move forward and find the one she looks. I will post some pics when we get it.

My sis in law bought a 4 dr Sahara model a couple of months ago...after a 3 hour trip in it i wasn't impressed, noisy, harsh riding, and a bit small...it looks good though....i guess i am gettin old.

But like my brother said... some things aren't worth arguing about.

Chris,

The last best Jeep was the CJ7, 8 if you just like cool things, not that the new ones are not good it's just that I'm a fan of the CJs.  My wife has 2 laredos, neither of which I am a fan of. But what ever your wife wants.... well you've been married for years and you know that works.   Thanks for doing your part to keep the economy going!!  Later Bro.

I had Jeeps for years and just traded off a 2007 Rubicon version for a Chev pickup. Got tired of the horrid fuel mileage for a v6. I also got 15-17 miles to the gallon(On a good day on the highway). Around 13 to 15 mpg in town.   Come to think of it all the jeeps I owned got around that. No excuse in todays day and age if you ask me. She will get tired of that real quick
Fun to drive in town because it can turn on a dime and take the top off and you forget about all the other issues.

Lots of fun but not to be intended as a only vehicle in my opinion.

Don't expect it to be a refined Wrangler.  It's a Wrangler with extra length and two more doors so has the same advantages and disadvantages.  It will be noisy, slow and get bad mileage (heavy and as aerodynamic as a stagecoach).  The old 4.0 liter inline six was one of the best engines around.  They dropped that and put in a 3.8 V6 out of the minivan; a horrible mistake in my opinion.  The one I drove for two weeks (automatic) was hunting for the right gear all the time and never seemed to quite find it.  Maybe they have changed engines again, I haven't looked at the most recent one.  On the plus side if you need to go anywhere off-road it will do it, and there is something basic about driving a Wrangler, especially with the doors off.  I've owned a Jeep of some sort for the last twenty years, but there are others I would consider above it if it was spending most of the time on road.

Has she looked at the Liberty ??  We had one and really liked it, and pretty good off-road. When you get the 4X with tow package it comes with skid plates, oil and tranny cooler, better venting for fording streams, and a very civilized and quiet interior. We traded it in on a Nitro and lost most of the off-road abilities but gained better ride on pavement...go figure, its the same chasis as the Liberty. The women really like those CJ's, but not for long so what can you to do. :nixweiss:
