I got the TP in primer.  Its almost ready for paint.  Im still playing with the hinge/latch idea.

On to the hinges.  Im thinking that I can bolt a piece of sheet metal to the inside of the lid using the four bolts that hold on the tourpak rack, and weld my pivot points to this.  This way its a secure fit, and the load is spread across the lid.  One of the challenges will be to pull this off without loosing tourpak capacity.  To me its all about form and function, and how the two blend.  Here, Ive mocked up the hinge pivot points, and length, out of wood to get an idea of what needed to be done:

I got the first layer of color sprayed.  Next step is to scuff it up, spray it with some base coat, then follow up with the clear.

It seems Ive been in the paint all day.  Things seem to look good so far.  Next step for the TP is buff the paint, run some wires and install the hardware.  I think I may be getting close.

I pulled some tape this morning.  I painted the side marker lights to match the taillights.

Heres a pic of the taillight.  The seam painted up nicely.

A shot of the interior.  I gained space over the stock taillight configuration.
