Pete are you going to be leaving the TP on a lot or just using it to travel? Personally I don't care for the look of the bike w/the TP on it so for me it's a totally functional piece. If I'm going to be at the same place for multiple days I usually pull it off. In saying that I'm just wondering (other then the lights for visibility) is it worth all the extra effort and cost to have a lot invested in paint? :nixweiss:

I'm with you on this Gary, I'm not a tour pack fan, but I have a BSR that prefers the wrap around passenger backrest and I did pick my tour pack up for a song, so it's a functional piece for me too and I do want the lighting.  If it was all orange pearl, I think it would look just fine, but you see I have this addiction and, well, you know how it goes.... :nixweiss: :drink:

The PN is 67914-10.  Fits '97 and up classic tour packs. I have the same tour pack as you do.

$384 at Chicago HD, but 20% night is coming up at my dealer and I just happen to have $400 in chrome cash on file there.

I like that this is surface mount. Cutting those big holes with the old style wasn't something I cared for.

Did you get the light bar yet?
Is the black part paint-able?

Curious about this warning on the HD site.

You won't be happy with just a plain jane paint job - do it right the first time. Gary just has a problem because he has ugly hinges.

By the way, I added the speakers pods after seeing my wife in the mirror putting some weight on the backrest arms while adjusting her position  :o.

When I installed them I pushed them up into the backrest to mark the hole location. And of course I added the speakers, and the amps and - you know how it goes  :2vrolijk_21:

I've got billet hinges. :P ;D I just don't like the TP on the bike... don't like the look nor the feel of it on the back of the bike.

Additions to the tourpak

Spoiler with light.
The side light lens kit, got LEDs for it off eBay
Special "Gary" hinges

HD LED light kit for the interior and the forward lower leading edge. These shine into the saddlebags and do a good job at that.

Cigar lighter type receptacle (west marine) inside the tourpak for phone charging etc. When I ran the wire for this I used 12 gauge. I have a 400 watt inverter I travel with which will allow charging the laptop or camera batteries while on the road.

I also put two eye hooks on the outside for bungee cords.

I used a 12 pin Deutsch connector kit available from your Local dealer with the female side attached to the bike harness (which I made) I have a spare male connector which I filled with silicone and use as a plug for the harness when the tourpak is off the bike, which is anytime I am not traveling or my wife is not riding.

I have it on order from Chicago HD, but yes, you can paint the black frame to match.

I examined one at my dealer.  You drill six 1/4" holes for studs to pass through that are on the light bar, then flanged nuts secure on the inside of the tour pack.  You can reuse your tour pack liner because so you don't lose any space inside the pack.
