Luggage Rack alternatives
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:40:25 PM »

Hi there!

I`m a Norwegian guy who is a newcomer on this site. I have just placed my order on a FLHXSE Spiced Rum and I`m considering some mods/add-ons. I do some touring around in Europe and I`m looking for a luggage rack where I can place my T-bag. I am not considering a TourPak. I`ve seen the new H-D Air Wing Detachable (P/N 54283-09) in the spring catalogue. Have any of you purchased and mounted this luggage rack on your FLHXSE? I would very much like your opinion (and pics if available) on this new product.

I couldn't afford a tour pak and also travel with a T-Bag. For my Spiced Rum I bought the rack described below. I think the upturned rear of the rack will provide better support for a T-Bak than the Air Wing rack. You might want to stuff a T-Bag and take it to the dealers to see how it sits on both racks before you decide.

Detachable Two-Up Luggage Rack

Smooth sweeping curves and a brilliant chrome finish defines the look of this Luggage Rack. This sleek and functional rack is an elegant solution for carrying your luggage across the country. Designed to work with or without Detachable Passenger Backrests, this rack can be installed or removed from the Docking Hardware in seconds, creating a truly versatile ride.

Anyone has any experience with the Stealth Detachable Luggage Rack, pn 53472-09 (chrome) / pn 53566-09 (black) compared with the other two mentioned?

Thanks for your response. I can`t find any description of the sizes. Deemed from the catalogue pictures the Detachable Two-Up Luggage Rack looks wider and longer than the Air Wing Detachable and might give better space for my T-bag. It also seems to be more sturdy. The design of the Air Wing looks quite nice. It would be great to see some pictures with these luggage racks mounted on the FLHXSE.

I put the stealth chrome rack on my scooter and my t-bag fits ok without relocating the antenna.  I also have the regular size passenger backrest so the t-bag holds on ok.  I'm at work today but will post a photo tomorrow morning.

Hi Eagle.  You are correct the detachable 2 up rack is the larger. I use it w/ a Multi Fit Ultra Tour Bag that has a capacity equal to a King Tour PAC @ about 25% less money. Works well. kb

Terrie and I use the Kuryakn Gran Traveler (wheeled w/collapsable handle   http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/13/scID/27/IMID/682   ) and we both have the detachable solo luggage rack.  It looks good on the bike yet it's large enough to be functional......    http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448772517&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302287433&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302287433&bmUID=1266158391927&bmLocale=en_US

I second this look, and it's the one I will order too. It does look good on the spiced rum.

54215-09  Had one like this on a Heritage, worked out well, just have to make sure everything is strapped down tight, makes a mess and could wreck you if things fall to the side.

The Stealth rack will probably look very nice on the SESG, but it seems a bit small for my Kuryakun Ultra Tour bag http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/13/scID/27/IMID/696 Too bad that that the dimensions are not stated in the catalogue.  :(
