handlebar wiring (internal)
« on: February 14, 2010, 11:44:23 AM »

Finishing up the aux port addition to the rear of my 07 SE Ultra radio and was hoping to run wires through the bars.  The hole is easy to get to, but it appears there's really no room for any more wiring due to the heated grips and whatever else is running through them.  I tried to snake a coat hanger through but that's a bad idea.  Is there a tool that can be helpful or should I just rout them along the bottom of the bar, externally?  Thanks in advance and Happy V Day.

To add a wire into bars that already have cable in them is realy difficult (but can be done). It is easier and less frustrating to remove the cables from whichever side of the bars you are working on then fish them all back in together. There is room to add...

Nuts...more work eh?  I suppose I need to (somehow) disconnect the wiring from the "grip" end.  Is there an easy way to do that?  I had the mirror/clutch/control plates off leaving just the grip but didn't notice an easy way to release the wiring (heated grips) from the grip itself.  If there is, I'd love to know it.

Thanks again.

The wires have a disconnect under the fairing.
You will need to remove the individual wires from the connector and then pull them all out of the grip end of the bars..

Thanks everyone.  I didn't see the disconnect but will look again today.  Sorry for the delayed response but too much travel this week.

It's actually not too difficult...just requires patience.  Label the wire locations in the connector and take your time.  You will have to pull your radio to get to the connector.  This also is not too difficult.
