Stock Performance?
« on: February 14, 2010, 01:42:06 PM »

How many are happy with stock performance?  Is the heat in the 2010s really that bad?  I am financially wiped out after this purchase and probably won't be able to do exhaust/Power Commander until next year.  Will I be happy with this bike "as is"?  My 08 Road King was fine with just the Cobra fi2000 fuel adder.  Does the 110" with the cat add a lot of heat on top of that?

1)  Some
2)  Yes!
3)  No
4)  Yes

Rather than reinvent the wheel, do a search and you will find more info on the 110 that you will have time to read.

I have searched...I was hoping that previous discussions were not necessarily an accurate picture and was hoping someone would chime in and say they were happy with the 110" as is. wishful thinking I guess. ::)

I was hoping to win the powerball lottery also, but so far it's just not happening.  :nixweiss:

I'm sure some are happy with their 110 as is, but the majority of people that ride a lot take steps to cool their 110 down.

IMHO!

SBB is pretty much dead on from my perspective.  After an additional 1500-2000 dollars my 110 runs really nice now and although the heat still isnt like my 06 or 00 it sure is a lot less excessive especially as cruising speeds.

Even if heat were not an issue, the over lean, EPA required Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) is...
Correcting this lean condition will help with the heat, and make your SESG run as it should. Your air cleaner is good as is.
My suggestion is to send the header to fullsac (www.fullsac.com) for their cat removal. Not too expensive. And, if you're on a budget, have fullsac recore your mufflers with the core of your choice.

You will need a Race Tuner or equivalent with a dyno tune. That's not cheap, but it is very important.

I am very happy with this combination. I've attached my dyno chart for you to take a look at.

Probably the best low cost approach would be the Nightrider devices that change the air fuel ratio in closed loop operation.  They also have the advantage of being easily removeable in case of a warranty problem, so the dealer wouldn't be able to use your modification as an excuse to deny warranty.  If/when you decide to do further mods and a full dyno tune, you can sell the IED units on ebay.

Compared to any other stock HD built today, other than a 1200 Sportster or a V-Rod, the stock 110 CVO does quite well. If you ever rode a stock 80" Evo, a stock TC 88", or a stock TC 96" you would really understand just how far HD has come with the CVO 110's power band. So your question is relative to what you rode previously.

With respect to heat, I've owed several previous HD's where engine heat was so bad that the right exhaust pipe would turn a dark blue after just one or two rides. Heat usually isn't an issue during highway riding, it's often a bigger problem during prolonged city riding.

All this being said the MoCo could much more, even with large dispalcement air/oil cooled v-twins. We don't hear anyone complaining about heat or power problems on the 105" Victory's'. They are air/oil cooled v-twins too. Hey, maybe the MoCo could learn something from the folks at Victory??

I've always wondered why the Victory hasnt become more popular than it is.   They have some pretty nice stuff.

could have something to do with the fact their engines look like they came out of an industrial compressor........

but other than that, they do make some nice bikes.

Steve at Fulsac can fix you up with a tuner and a map. Money well spent. Had less than 100 miles on mine and I changed out the head pipe with a 09 non cat and Fulsac baffles. Runs 100% perfect and did not have a dyno.

When you get A few bucks call Steve at Fullsac, best performance for your money.  If your handy enough you can change out the baffles yourself and remove the cat.  I did one bike and Fullsac did the other one.  Gets the engine running cooler with better power and torque.  Get the tuner also, I did not have it dyno tuned yet, and it is running great so I may not spend the money.   I've gone the Fullsac route on 2 CVO's, they get the job done.  Plus you get to keep the stock mufflers, my personal choice.

It would be interesting to see a dyno map for a 2010 CVO with cats removed and IEDs and stock exhaust.

My understanding is that the dyno chart will only show the difference from cat removal; IEDs do not affect anything at WOT, only closed loop mode.
Someone chime in if I'm off base.
