tuner for new exhaust and air cleaner?
« on: February 15, 2010, 03:15:14 PM »

here is the deal, i have a cobalt blue 04 with vance and hines big shot slash cuts. i am now going to install kuryakyn twin air cleaner for looks. i need to know which tuner to get?  i don't care about performance, just want to be safe and not run the bike lean. i don't have a dyno within 100 miles of me so i don't have a way to dyno tune it. i just want something simple and safe. i've had the fuelpak once and a pc3 once before and i liked the fuelpak better as far as simplicity! thank you all in advance for the help.

Billy,
First off welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: When you get a chance you should go to this board - New Member Introduction and start a thread to introduce yourself.

As far as what tuner to get there are many out there... if you are going to do the tuning yourself then you may want to search the site for "TTS Mastertune" this has a self tuning feature. If you are going to have someone else tune your bike go by whatever device they recommend as more then likely this will be the device they are most proficient with and provide you the best tune.

talked to the dealer today and they say they can program it for me for $150. i know it's not the same as my own programming or mapping but it is a real good price and i'm only after a good fuel mixture.

That's like dating an ugly chick because she don't drink and it's gona be cheaper in the long hall. Get the most from your ride. A great tune will make the bike even better. Call Jamie @  http://fuelmotousa.com/home.htm He is priced low.  :drink:

i know what you are saying about cheap. the only problem is i just don't have a shop around to tune on or map something for me. there is no dyno around so i really need something to just plug and play that i know i can trust. i just really want to make sure it runs good and doesn't burn a hole in a piston. that's why i asked you guys because there are so many intelligent riders one here! thanks again guys i will keep checking until i am 100% sure i am doing the right thing!

What device are they going to use for only $150?  Sounds to me like they are going to sell you the $149 download for a Stage 1 (air cleaner and mufflers).  If so, it won't necessarily be matched to your parts since the downloads were based on using Screamin' Eagle air cleaners and S.E. mufflers with the stock head pipes.

Check with some of the various device manufacturer's, such as Power Commander, to see if they have a canned map that matches your bike and modifications.  Won't be a perfect tune, but it will be better than the MoCo download.  The Fuel Moto suggestion is a good one, Jamie has an extensive library of maps and good prices on the PC's as well.

I'm leaning this way too.  They even double the warranty as well as give you free downloads for when you change up things on the bike.  My only thing is do I want the auto tune for my '06 or not?  My head pipes are Bassani power curves w/o the bungs.  I have been told they can be added easy enough.

Any input would be great.....I don't mean to hijack the thread.
