I just went out and checked the MM on my new 2006 FLTRI, and guess what.....still has the old style. Wonder if the MoCo is really going to put a new one in ? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
Guess I will have be carefull when I change the oil.... :-?

The mount on the FLHRSEI lasted 58k, but sure smoothed out when I installed the new one.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

There you go, the answer. I'll try to post a picture later

Crawdaddy,

In theory, if the correct rubber is used, oil shouldn't affect it.  Most likely the failures are predetermined at the time the mount is manufactured, due to less than optimum bonding between the rubber and metal parts.  Most failures I've seen or heard of occurred at the rubber to metal bond, and were not an actual tearing of the rubber.  If the new mount is polyurethane, as I believe it is, that should make the mount many times more reliable.  Urethane is one tough material, and will bond to almost anything.

Jerry,

You're probably right.  I just think with all the bikes using this mount there may be a cause rather than  a defect.  That said, it appears from the change in material on the replacement part, there must be a defect.

I over analyze things like this, like when my Rhineharts blew out and the terrible vibration they caused.  Rear shocks going out, etc.

One nice thing about this site though, is it give you plenty of heads up on what to look for before it happens.

When mine broke after a couple thousand miles, it actually hit the voltage regular which killed the charging system.  Regulator and motor mount was replaced and haven't had a problem.
