In the process of talking with H-D in a complaint about a wiring job that a tech did on my bike,   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=45954.0 and the answer that I got from their tech dept,(DO NOT) if you have a SESG use the wiring harness that is installed on the bike marked (Garage Door) to install part# 91558-01A. If you do you will disable the low beam bulb while the high beam is on. As far as I can understand this could cause an accident because of low light up close to the rider. (Just my opinion) The tech that called me back said that they will need to change the way they box them or they will provide different instructions for this bike. They may do something other than that, who knows what.
Does anyone have an email for the MOCO that a paper trail of this be should be sent to? Paper trails are always a good thing.

If you do this mod use the method for a bike with one headlight. I believe that will do the trick.

The MoCo hasn't made public any of their email addresses, most likely because they really don't want to hear from us.  And if you want a really good paper trail, you need to use the "old tech" methods anyway.  Certified letter, return receipt, addressed to a real person at a real address, copy to file, etc.   You can find listings of corporate officers for most companies either on the web or at the local library.

I really can't understand this, TJ. As you know, this is the harness I use; the diode in it ensures that low stays on when you switch to high beam.  I cannot see (this is a very basic circuit after all!) how this could possibly malfunction - unless wires are cut (and why would they be?) or the diode shorted out of the circuit (again, why would it be?) it can't really go wrong that I can see.

Is it perhaps because the garage door opener 91558-01A is not the stock one (though it's a kit, and the parts may be the same ones as on the stock one, transmitter being 91561-01A)?  Still can't see how it could go wrong, and to use the opener, and keep both beams on, it's not necessary to modify the harness at all...

It is not the lighting harness, it is the pigtail that's put in for the door opener. I think it has somthing to do with the SESG not having passing lamps on it. That's what I was told. Next time I have the fairing cap off I may do some messing around with it, but it is working now and I just want to get some riding In while it's nice.

I suspect that's total bullsh*t they're giving you TJ.  That harness has nothing to do with passing lamps at all as far as I recall. The harness is so simple, it would do the same job on ANY FL, I think - I'll have a look at the diagram just to refresh my memory, but I'm pretty sure it can't be what they are telling you. (Could be wrong, I often am!)

I had the same issue with my 2010 door opener and headlight! When switching to high beam, only the high beam bulb was on not both. I checked the door opener pigtail and found that the wiring of the diode's where incorrect. The yellow wire going to the light bulb and the two wire ends from the diode's yellow and white wires all need to be connected to gether. Then both bulbs to work when the switch is in the high beam position. When switched to low beam position you will still have a single bulb for low beam.

I also had an older Harley door opener transmitter part number 91559-01, I wired the yellow and white wires in before each diode and right after the headlight plug. The other two wires where connected to the wires provided in the wiring harness.

Door opener works fine now and so do the lights, my guess is the dealerships are saying you need a new harness but are only changing the wiring in the existing door opener pigtail.

Does anyone know if the 2011 FLHXSE2 uses the same pigtail as the 2010's marked "Garage Door"?

If so, is it safe to use now (wired correctly); or should we still use the method for bikes with one headlight that TJ mentioned earlier?

Just trying to get a handle on this because I am about ready to install p/n 91558-01A on my 2011.

Although Jerry is correct about e-mail addresses not being published and a better paper trail would be registered letter etc, we have the Tomahawk plant as one of our customers.  Their e-mail addresses are first name period last name AT harley-davidson.com

So if you know the first and last name of the person you're talking to, you stand a pretty good shot at getting to them via e-mail.

Thanks, crazybob ... I just want to confirm: are you saying that your FLHXSE2 did not even have the pigtail marked "garage door" as a part of your harness? You just hooked it up according to the instructions in the remote opener kit and the low-beam headlight stays on when using the high-beams?
