Just stumbled across this bulletin on heated grips purchased through dealers extending the warranty to 1 year.  Mrs. WE, this might apply to yours - you may want to check it out.

Wow, this is good news.  One year warranty now.  But why replace only the left grip, my first pair that failed, both grips had no chrome on them either.  Third replacement took care of it - I went to the flame grips and again on the fourth pair. I am hoping my last.  Thanks for thinking about me.

Just reading that document.  From it one would assume that the high failure problem was primarily in the controls in the left grip.  But Mrs We is right, they make no concession for bad chrome or element failures in either grip.  From the reports here we know there have been issues with those parts of the systems too.  So, as usual, HD is looking for a band-aid fix when a better solution is available and would be far less contentious.
