122 miles on dyno normal?
« on: February 25, 2010, 04:30:53 PM »

Bought a new 2010 SEUC, and had the dealer install Rinehart True duals, SERT, and Stage 1 A/C. Had the dealer install because they could dyno the bike after install. Have owned other bikes never had one dyno tuned, so this may be perfectly normal. In my excitement I failed to check the odometer at the dealer, when I got it home, had to trailer because of the weather, I noticed on the dyno sheet, miles in 3 and miles out 125. Went out and looked at the odometer and it read 125 miles. So they ran the bike for 122 miles on the dyno. I am going to call the dealer and ask, but just wondered if this was normal for a dyno run.

A few questions, How long was the bike on the Dyno? How many adjustments did the tech make on the Dyno? Did the tech take the bike out on the highway to check and or verify the tune? How experienced is the tech / tuner?

The most miles I ever logged were 58 including the highway check, however, the highway was very accessable to me.

If the bike is tuned well and the tech ran the bike through the paces on the highway to verify, 122 miles is a small price to pay.

FLTRCVO, cant answer how long bike was on dyno, Or how experienced the tech was.  All I am going by is the work order. 3.5 hrs labor to install Rinehart's, stage 1 a/c, and race tuner, and 1 hr labor on dyno. The dealer is right on a major road, but with temps in the 30's and snow everywere, I would be suprised if the tech road it very long. I agree a small price to pay to make sure its right. I was just suprised to see the mileage. Have seen dynos at different bike events, watched them making pulls. Just wondered if that was unusual mileage on a dyno.

Gosh, that sounds way excessive to me, even if they did a couple of test rides too.

When John Golden did mine, I watched and even though he did tons of pulls at different ranges and such, I can't fathom him putting on more than 10 to 20 miles max. They just don't run them at speed that long to accrue miles.

I guess if you trust the guy, let it slide, but I'd surely be scratching my head. But then again, I never leave my bikes out of my sight.

I'm in the great state of Md. Its seems like a great H/D dealership, first dealings I ever had with them, friendly and very knowledgeable. Not having ever had a bike dyno tuned had nothing to compare it too, but the mileage may be normal for the work they had to do.

122 miles seems excessive, IMO..........

I didn't check mileage on my '10, but, it was on the dyno for 8 hrs and 3/4 tank of gas.
This was due to some parts swapping, testing, and other things that Steve wanted to check, by no means just a "tune" and go.
Do I think this was reasonable?
Well, yeah!  :2vrolijk_21:
Bike runs great, no problems and a big change in the 200 miles there, verses the 200 miles back!!

Next new bike, I'll make the changes before getting on the dyno! In fact, with the TTS program, I'll just let the V-Tune do it for me~!
(Steve, I'll still ride out to see ya!)

Is it advisable to dyno a new motor? :nixweiss:

The SERT can be difficult to tune.  When mine was tuned on the dyno the dealer put over 200 miles on it.

Just had the same setup done on mine, I havn't seen the odometer since they dynoed the bike. Just wondering how you like the changes you made? How's the power and throttle response?

Is it advisable to dyno a new motor?

I was told as long as the motor is brought up to proper running temp and all parts are warmed up everything is ok. If a motor is started placed directly on the dyno and pulled that can cause damage. According to the tech at J&L HD the Pistons are a little oblong and when they warm up they form the correct shape.

Maybe they put the rear tire up in the air and let the bike run for a while for a very short 100 mile or so break in before the dyno.

My dealer told me I couldn't believe anything I read on the internet. Especially from a CVO forum.
