I am hoping that lowering the bike and putting a deeper , more narrow seat will help me with the "top heavy" issue. Someone here (do not remember who it was) talked about "motorcycle armour". They were not speaking about body armour, but something to put on the bike. What is that , and what is the website for viewing the suggested video? Does anyone know? On the "Ride Like A Pro" website there is a link for black guards for the engine guards.....not expensive...like 24.95. That will help if I drop the bike in slow manuevering. Anyone have other suggestions?
Hi Debbie,
You have some courage to order the most expensive and most heavy Harley after being only four months on a bike! I hope all goes well for you.
As for Motorcycle Armour, click here:
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=42620.0 . However I am afraid it won't help you much besides protecting some areas of the bike against normal wear and tear.
Now here is the good news: The BLK gets delivered with the new saddle which makes for almost two inches lower seat height. If you have tried an earlier bike, you'll be pleasantly surprised. If this helps you to put your feet firmly on the ground at a stop, then do not lower the bike any further. You reduce your lean angle, and reduce comfort. There are third party solutions to change front and rear shocks, but the good ones are rather expensive and mostly not designed to lower the bike.
Just in case the seat height with the new saddle is still to high, you could consider different seats from H-D or other manufacturers. You'll most probably loose the heat options in exchange for further lowered seat height.
Finally, when you drop the bike (and we all hope it's not happening) the stock crash bars should provide good protection, but you should also have a plan to get the bike upright again ;-) - That is were your Ride-like-a-pro comes in.
The saying goes that there are two kinds of E-Glide riders: Those who have dropped their bike, and those who will drop their bike.
Ride safely,
Louis
