Harley closed for possible paint emission

Harley-Davidson stopped production in its York and Kansas City plants after lunch today, sending employees home and citing a potentially harmful paint emission.
York plant spokesman Michael DiMauro said production isn't expected to resume until Monday, with employees taking the time as unpaid time off.

A paint manufacturer warned the company earlier this week that there's a possibility the paint used for coating motorcycle parts is emitting benzene, a carcinogen.

After Harley's preliminary tests showed there was "something worth looking into," the paint line was turned off, he said. Because there are no painted parts to assemble, all production is stalled, he said.

"We're just making sure we're within OSHA standards," DiMauro said.

He said the measure is "just a precaution," and he's not aware of anyone who has become ill or complained of symptoms as a result of exposure to the paint fumes.

DiMauro said the company plans to conduct more tests and "will take whatever corrective measures are necessary, if any."

He said it's not clear for which shift the plant is expected to reopen on Monday.

Rode the round trip (135 miles) to Arrowhead Harley Davidson this morning to look at #68 of 999. AWESOME looking bike in the sun. Spend 4 hrs dealing with the sales manager, I left her sitting there at the dealesrship. The Sales Manager called the owner to see if they could come down to MRSP (over $5400.00), "No way" He stated they will sell it to someone with lots of money. Okay fine, I'll wait another 3 weeks or so until the one I put $1000.00 down on comes in at Superstition Harley, by the way they are a MRSP dealership.

Just remember if in Phoenix, stay away from Arrowhead Harley Davidson. By the way, the owner also runs and owns Chandler Harley davidson.....

I am new to the site, I am also waiting for mine, i was told by the dealer it will be in May 21st from Denny's Harley Davidson Springfield for MSRP.

I live just North of Little Rock AR, Landers Harley Davidson plans to take closed bids on the one there are getting.

Was at one of the local dealers the other day (East Coast Harley in Dumfries, VA) and was talking to the sales manager about the dark ultra.  He said they were getting one in in May.  When I asked him how much it was going to go for he told me MSRP + $5000.  I told him they were Ef'n nuts, but the owner feels he'll get some sucker dedicated rider to pay that amount because it's so "limited".  I told him they made made less of the blue/silver SEUC than the black one and that one is truly a limited production CVO.  He just looked at me with a "deer in the headlights" look.

I called them and they are expecting the bike in a week or so.  They ARE charging freight and set up.  Would not discount those fees off.
