Hitch for 09 SERG
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:51:05 PM »

Does anyone have pictures of a trailer hitch installed on their 09 SERG?  Bushtec and MCHitch are the only 2 I can find that make a hitch that fits on the 09 SERG.  Both seem to have some issues as the MCHitch looks too visible under the side fillers and the Bushtec seems to show more of the connector part on the receiver.  How obvious is this on the bike?  I am looking for the best hidden hitch I can find.  It will hook up to a Bushtec.  Thanks.

I just ordered the Bushtec hidden hitch myself, so it should be shipped soon. So obviously, no pictures as of yet.

There are some threads that mention the 09 SERG hitch by Bushtec does not line up properly with the rear wheel.  I spoke to someone at Bushtec today and they indicated that they have a revision to the version 3 hitch that allows you to "slide" the part that sticks out to better align with either the rear wheel or the center of the fender.  It's supposedly done, but not in mass production.  She indicated that she would put an order in to build the new hitch for me.  Not sure what you're getting, but you may want to double check to see if you need/want the revised hitch.

Excited to get your feedback once it is installed.

I do remember they mentioned I would be receiving the "version 3 hitch", so hopefully all is good  :2vrolijk_21:

I ordered the version 3 Bushtec hitch today and asked that they send me the latest version which includes a sliding mechanism to eliminate the mounting problem that some others on this forum have posted.  Trailer arrives Saturday and hopefully hitch will be in by next week.

I looked at both the MCHitch and the Bushtec and decided that Bushtec is the least obtrusive looking of the two.  Only 2 hitches I could find that fit the 09 SERG.  MCHitch shows too much of the hitch frame imo, although painting to match the bike would help disguise the hitch.  Bushtec seems well hidden with only the receiver"tongue" showing.  It's rather hard to tell from the pictures I looked at as to how far this tongue extends but it should be acceptable.  I'm sure if it's not, someone on this forum will formulate a fix!

Will post pixs when install completed.

I mounted a MCHitch on my 2009 SERG yesterday morning.  I had to order the harness from American Legend though, the 2009 SERG and the CVO Street Glide use different connectors due to the LED Lighting.

The hitch has been installed on my 09 SERG.  Wiring harness came from American Legend and I ordered the hitch through Bushtec.  I am completely satisfied with this hitch as it is virtually impossible to see when the tongue and ball are removed.  Both American Legend and Bushtec were great to deal with.  Found the AL trailer on ebay via the AL dealer in Las Vegas.  Trailer is an 08 model, but used for display in various shows and was never used.  Next step is the CVO paint scheme, however the trailer does not clash poorly with the bike and will work until I get it to a paint shop.

It was important to find a hitch that was "hidden" when not being used.  See for yourself, but I am very pleased.

Thanks.  The hitch was $354 + $26 shipping from Bushtec.  That includes hitch, stainless steel tongue and ball, and locking pin to secure the tongue.  I did not include the relay harness as I purchased that from American Legend.

Thanks for the pictures. Really looks good both on and off the bike. Can I ask you what stile of receiver is it? Does it slide up and in or straight in? Is it 1.25" square tube? I only ask because I have an N-Line trailer and they don't use the ball type receiver. This is the most hidden one I have seen yet and it has absolutely got my attention... Thanks Again.

The following are some pictures of the receiver.  Hope this helps.  Bushtec people were great to talk with, so they may be able to answer any questions you may have.
