Cleaning/restoring unpainted inner fairings
« on: March 08, 2010, 03:30:37 AM »

I am the proud owner of a 2009 FLHX that I ride year round, the problem is: my inner fairing looks like total ass. It is covered in little white spots and is turning gray. The dealership has told me "That is normal." I have a hard time believing that a. My $20000 motorcycle has crappier plastics on it than a $8000 KIA. And b. That there is no good way to clean it. They told me to use the H-D waterless detailer on it, as well as the Honda equalivent but neither work. Also my cables are turning gray too. Is this normal? Why did thus happen so fast, and how can I fix it? Is this a warranty issue? I'm at my witts end here and would like a bit of sage advice. Thanks.

Try Pig Spit it will make the black surface look a lot better and will help prevent fadeing in the future....

Mothers Back to Black.  Seems a bit quick for it to happen, my 08 hadn't started fading in the 18 months I had it.

Does the white spots kind of remind you of the white spots you see on the flat black outside rearview mirrors of a car? If so you need to take it easy with the wax. Wax removing solvent.

i use maguire's leather cleaner and conditioner on my inner fairing and it brings back the glossy black finish that's supposed to be there. however after a period of time it's dull again. it gets this treatment every time i wash and detail the bike.

I'm sure there are many good products but the best I've used is   Plexus® Plastic Cleaner.

Good Product, It Shields against UV rays that cause fading.

Ensure you are washing the bike without "hard" water.  In San Antonio we have water that is heavy in minerals.
