Long distance touring seats
« on: January 26, 2006, 07:53:48 PM »

I was a "lurker" on this site for many months before joining,  and have gotten a lot of good information as well as given some.  I've got a 05 SEEG Cherry Bomb and would like some input from from you guys on a seat (for long distance).  Keep in mind that I have two crushed disks in my back (or should I say no disks in my back),  so I'm looking for any suggestions for added comfort just for LONG rides (1000 miles and more).  I've considered a leather road blimp (or what ever the MOCO is calling that Lazy Boy with matching ottoman),  but would like some input from you guys if there is any other options that might be a little more stylish.

Hey (B)Eagle!!

I have always found Mustang touring seats to be good in the long haul.

I have not had the pleasure of trying the "Road Blimp" but it looks like it should do the business - at a price....

Are you planning solo rides or with a "naviguesser" (thanks, whoever, - I love that word)

Either way, what you are going to need (more than just a comfort cushion) is a good (adjustable) backrest - this will make all the difference to your back (and general upper body well-being) on the extreme runs you are looking to undertake.

Problem is, a comfortable (for you) backrest tends to get in the way of your pillion's comfort, so you will end up making lots of (= too many) stops which pretty much precludes really long trips (and stable relationships - been there - done that...)

So what's the answer?

Well, I dunno.

You, on your own? - with a backrest and firm buttock support = Corbin solo?

With a co-pilot? - a good dual = Mustang (IMHO) - hard to beat.

Or travel in luxury (I imagine) and go for the inflatable Zeppballoon.

Let us know which way you decide, and enjoy the  long trips.

Best Wishes

Dave

Beagle

These are very good suggestions given. I also recommend that you check out the Russell Day-Long seats. These are custom made seat for the individual, with a money back guarantee, after given them a couple of tries to correct any problems. They are pricey but not as much as the Road Zep.

The "pillow look" for Road King served me and the wife very well in our 6,000 mile trip this past summer. Looks a little bulky, hell it is, but rear end both did just fine and neither could complain. Good luck. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I have seen many great reviews about the Russell Cycle Products Day-Long seats. I have talked to several long distance riders that swear by them too.
The link to their website is : www.day-long.com they have many ideas and photos on their site. They make a  riderbackrest which is adjustable and is designed not to cut down passenger leg room.
If the passenger room is still tight you shoud get the tourpack relocation bracket made by Mr. George Anderson. I got one and it moves the tourpack back 2.5 inches which give a lot more room for you to throw a leg over or for the passenger to sit more comfortably. His phone number is (309)762-6291 in Il.
this is the bracket.

Thanks for the input,  tried to go to the Russell web site and can't get in.  The site may be down. I'm going to hold off until I see what Russell has to offer,  still kinda leaning to the Road Blimp though.  I have a comfort stich touring seat now that still isn't as comfortable as my stock 99 FLHTCUI seat on my old bike.  Thanks for the input guys......
