BEST REAR STABILISER
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:13:49 PM »

Does the group have a definitive answer to which is the best stabiliser to use, as I do NOT run one but after a VERY VERY close call with a wobble on a sweeping righthander today, I am going to get one. The bike has always "shimmied" round corners, but nothing like what I experienced today, IF I had NOT had the paint job done on the bike, it would have been slammed in to the dealers against a new one, but I am going to TRY and cure this and any input would be appreciated, thanks Ady

Have installed ( and ridden ) one ultra with the Tru track, and one Ultra with the Bitchin bagger. Both are nice but the Bitchin bagger seems to install better, fit better, and look better ( I know you cant see it). This is only my opinion, in the end both units did what they said the would.

I think they all do the same thing, just different designs. I have the bagger brace, not on yet, maybe this week. I like it because it spreads out the load on the trans, it bolts to three points on both sides of the trans. Many bolt to just the three at the back, some have stanchions to get below the trans pan, I think that adds more stress on the bolts and the mounting holes in the trans. Just my opinion.

Not to hijack but would those STA-BO Bushings help?

Ive bit the bullet and gone for the BAGGER BRACE, so when ive done the swing arm bushes(HD) and bearings, made sure the whole thing is in line and put in the new forks, AND fitted the BAGGER BRACE, maybe, just maybe it will stop trying to throw me off 8)

Hi custard,

I had issues with my '05 SEEG like that as well. I installed a Tru-Track, but in my mind it did not provide that much of an improvement on the ride. Mind you, the wobble occured only at 150 km/h or more, so it is something you'd not really want to test out. What we did, and I thought it helped more, is use H-D's heavy fork oil instead of the standard fork oil.

Ride safely,
Louis

Hi Louis, had the heavy fork oil in from about a year old, but guess what, it's still trying to throw me off, well NO MORE, ive had enough of the beast trying to part company, and it AIN'T gonna win, i guess i'm the only mug on here ridin without a brace, and given I like to ride quickly with the best of em (you know that Louis after the ride we had to Kobarid) I think i'm lucky not to have had my ass draggin down the road before now :o

Go with the Bagger Brace. If I recall, the owner told me if you don't like it return it. He has yet to have one returned. That should say enough about the product.

I guess this thread is useless to someone who sets the cruise control to 75 on the highway and less than 65 in a 55 zone?

Not really, I notice most of my rear steer in wide sweepers on the highway, speed has no bearing unless under 30mph, the rear moves side to side, it's very slight, but I can feel myself making corrections to stay on my line. Mainly an issue with the older frame although I don't know what they did to the swingare bushings on the new frame to correct it, haven't seen any info and no one has been able to tell me.

its also a issue with a sidecar....

ive been reluctant so far to add a brace - im worried about breaking something...

i can tell that with a passenger in the sidecar cloverleafs push the rear wheel hard to the right...

what i really want is a z link right at the axle... *grin*

Well I finally installed the Bagger Brace Saturday. Only took about an hour to install. Went for a short ride, it was pretty cool out. I could feel the difference right off, even at low speeds around the development, the steering was more responsive. It was really nice out yesterday, but I was up in the mountains all day so no riding. I'll get it out this week and give it a good ride and let you know.

When I bought mine I looked at all the different types, went with the Ride Str8. Looked like the best overall at the time. Some of the braces can cause more problems then they attempt to solve - just ask Hogasm.

The Ride Str8 seems to do what it is supposed to but I had to remove it when I installed a Baker +1 oil pan.

Anyone interested in a Ride Str8 before it goes on eBay?

Like I said before, I think they all do the same thing, it's the design I liked the most so I went with the Bagger Brace. Spreads out the load on the pan across 6 bolts, three on each side of the pan.
