I first came up with the new seat bracket to move the seat forward, but I still felt that the seat was high centered in the front and the rear of the pan.  This lets the seat sag in the middle.

I had all intentions of putting in some spacers, but I was going to put them under the fabric on the bottom of the seat pan.

Now think about this.

The SERG seats are weak and they're doing the frame spacer blocks.  Yes that will fix the stock SERG seat from bending down in the arse area and maybe even keep the nose down just a bit...... butt, what happens when you use another seat?  I have a '08/'09 Sundowner seat that I used on my '08 SERK and sometimes use on my '09 SERG.

Am I supposed to take off the "fix" spacers when I put on another seat?  That will suck the big one...

They should fix the seat, not make the bike work with a poor seat design. Period!!!!

In my case it does not even fix the problem and I only weigh 192 LBS.  I'm looking at an after market but don't know where to start.  Any help?

If this is THE fix, I wonder why the bulletin also mentions actually replacing the seat as a second option for fixing the problem.  Is that an admission that they built a bunch of seats wrong, on top of the p-poor design issue?  Or is it just another case of H-D trying to pawn off a cheap pseudo "fix" that they hope will be accepted by 90%, leaving only 10% requiring a higher cost "fix"?

IMHO, this is pure BS.  The fact that they claim to be installing these bumpers in production now is totally amazing to me, and leads me to believe that you will see a different seat on the 2011.  It makes no sense in an assembly plant to add parts and labor to fix a problem that can be solved at the component level with a mold change, unless you don't plan to continue to use that particular mold in the future.

MKW:

Man, you're killing me here...  I haven't seen 192# since I was a senior in high school.  Just my right thigh weighs more than that.........  ;D  ;D

I can't imagine what it would be like to run up and down stairs with an 80# load taken off my legs.

Jerry:

Yes, a seat pan mold change would take care of this and also reinforce the pan at the same time against flexing.

Without my fat butt on the seat and with my 1" extension on the rear seat bracket, my seat just touches off on the tank console.  When I sit down it gaps about half an inch.

If I take off the longer bracket and put it back original, the seat without any weight has almost an inch gap.  I can't see the spacers making this gap up without any weight on the seat.

I'll take a new seat with the "fix".  For what it's worth, my wife and I both find this SERG seat to be as comfortable as the Mustang 16"/12" seat I have on the '76 FLH and a bit more comfortable than the Sundowner I bought for the '08 SERK.  I think for very long trips the Sundowner would be better for the wife, but for the majority of our riding we like the SERG original seat.  Also we ride with the Chopped TourPak installed and it has the Buffalo insert leather print to match the seat.  I like to keep things matching.

If you look at the new '10 Road Glide Custom seat, it's nice and firm and you cannot lift up the nose of the seat with your hands.  I do understand though that the '10 SESG has the same issues as the '09 SERG has, or at least to some extent.

I've said this before, this is not rocket science and it's not that they "just" got into business and are making their first seat.  We're in the 107th year of HD, you would think they could get something as basic as a seat to work and fit correctly.

 :soapbox:

Later dudes and dudettes...

Well, picked up one of the SERGs today and Harley Tech said since I had saddlebag crash bars mounted in the holes where the seat bumpers go, I had to either take the bars off to mount the bumpers or there was nothing they could do.

Went to the dealers yesterday and the new seat is on back order with no ship date so my guess is they are coming out with a new seat, My seat is also touching the left saddle bag.     Doc

My longer replacement seat is working fine, no more large gap between tank console and seat is tight!

The dealer installed the new replacement seat for me. Just put 1100 miles on in the last 3 days so have about 1300 miles on it. The seat is doing fine with about a 1/2 gap when sitting, and 1/8 when off.

Jim at Metal Dragon inspected/tested the longer replacement as well as the shorter original and feels the problem has been corrected. Jim did a one-armed fist stand on the seat and it seemed solid. When I took the seat off for photos it required a firmer adjustment to get the female slot to slide over the male bracket to reinstall.

NOTE: The part number for longer replacement and shorter original seat are the same. (Why? I don't know!) Due to this you may run the risk of a dealer having the shorter original in dealer's inventory. My longer replacement was ordered, arrived in about three days and took 10 mins to install.
