My question is:

Has anyone moved their scoot using one of those U-Haul covered trailer thingies?

ok this is my take on this, you're moving to a stange place with a lot on your mind and you don't need to be dealing with this. Where are you gonna store it when you get there etc etc  Ship the bike with Allied Van Lines. They are the best in IMHO in terms of no nicks, dings, scratches etc etc. You can drop the bike off before you leave Boston and have it set up to be delivered to the Allied depot closest to your new place three weeks down the road. Gives you time to settle in, not worry about your ride, find a suitable place to store it etc etc. Should cost between $600 and $800 USD with 25k insurance included. Money well spent !  ;)

Guys,
I've moved a lot of stuff through the years,  and all of the rental companies have tie down points inside of the trailers and or boxes (truck boxes).  The question becomes,  how, and how fast do you want to be there??  If you have alot of worldly possetions(sp) ((is that in Websters,  shiiiiit, dunno!!! anyway)),take the slow boat,  enjoy the ride and meet the folks along the way.  That's what makes it so kool......meet the people,  smell the air,  enjoy the ride (whether it be in a truck haulin' the trailer,  or in the wind,  or figurin out how to get the bike there.....it's still about the ride.......meet the people on the way).  In all the years I've been ridin' and wrenchin' and workin......one thing that amazes me is that the human brain remembers certain things.......never pain (at least as was delt out in Ardmore OK. about 15 yrs ago.....thank god,  I was a bit of a wise ass back then,  and a little too little to be freakin around with these boyz), anyhow... the point is enjoy the ride,,,,  no matter how you get there.....

Life is a gift.  You can work your fingers to the bone and what do you get.....boney fingers.  Take the gift that you've been given and enjoy it while you can.....otherwise, you'll wake up one morning and find that you spent the whole thing trying to figure it out........(then it's too late...)
Just one simple mans opinion!!!!!
All the best that life has to offer.
Good luck in KC.....

Rent a van from Enterprize. I got my full size FLSTS inside with room to spare. And there are pleanty of things to hook to for tie downs.

The U-Haul has a narrow board that goes the lenght and it's up about 2 1/2 feet as I remember. There is just barely enough room behind the runner to get a hook on. In fact I folded a strap then slide the folded strap up in between the wall and the runner then I put the hook thru the folded strap like it was a loop. I then pulled the other end of the strap tight, it did work. The real problem wat the fact the an Ultr is about 1/8 in longer than the amount available. so the rear of the top lip of the tour pack rubbed agaist the door and wore the glass right down to a mess. He pepaired it by puttin a sticker over. The sticker reads "TRUST NO ONE"
Where are you going to and from??

Buy a nice enclosed trailer for a couple grand and bring some stuff with you. Trailers are nice to have and you can deduct it in the move because you bought it for that, check with your tax advisor of course, but, thats what I did, and now I got a nice trailer too.

If you buy the enclosed trailer, use it, deduct the expense then sell it. Sounds as if it could be cheaper than renting.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Don't tell KC I'm a Raiders fan ;)

Outstanding.  I make it to Arrowhead for some games each year.  But always make it to the Raider's game.  A good Raider fan can get so much free beer at those games (you just don't get the cup).  If it's an early season game I wear my t-shirt that says "Lennie Dawson deserved it!"
