NO THROTTLE RESPONSE on 04 CVO bagger
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:52:45 PM »

Pulled up at a local place, killed the motor and when I restarted she would not rev up. Had to trailer it home which is way f$%*ing embarrassing.
Throttle feels a little sticky. I took off the air cleaner and bracket and can see nothing mechanically wrong......  She starts like a dream but does NOTHING when you give it throttle. Frustrating. finally getting some decent riding weather here in Wyoming and I'm stuck in a cage.

2004 103" FLHTCUSEI is the bike in question......

I'm guessing that you are sure one of the throttle cable is not broken.  With a "sticky" throttle, it may be that it is broken at the grip??

Did you take the cover off at the throttle to see if the cable came out of the brass sleeve?

The cables are groovy.... Nothing mechanicaly wrong that is visible. Both cables are functioning properly. Bike Does not throttle up but the linkage moves like it is supposed to.

If the cables move at the throttle body but the throttle does not open than either the cables are no longer attached to the throttle or the throttle shaft is broken....   :nixweiss:

Can you open the throttle manually?  With your hand?

Need to remove the air cleaner and look at the actual throttle plate, not just the external linkage, while turning the throttle.  If the cables and linkage move with the grip but the throttle plate doesn't, you've found your problem (broken shaft).  If the plate opens when rotating the grip, then further diagnosis is required.  Since you didn't mention the engine stumbling or anything other than continuing to idle when you twist the grip, it's unlikely the throttle plate is actually opening.  All that extra air with no extra fuel wouldn't continue to run smoothly, if at all.

Is the "check engine" light on?  If it is, you need to check for diagnostic codes.  If you have a sensor failure there should be one or more codes present.

I suspect you are right and the throttle shaft is broken. It does not open when I move it manually.
