US 60 or US 70 from Arizona to Indiana
« on: March 22, 2010, 01:26:26 AM »

End of May riding from Arizona to Indiana, looking at taking either US 60 or US 70 most of the way, want to stay off Interstates as much as possible, has any one ridden much of these roads? I know the Arizona portions well, but nothing about them on east of Arizona. Thanks for any info you can provide.

US60 through Missouri is almost all 4 lane from Springfield east to the boarder.  You will probably run into some construction in the areas where they haven't finished putting in the new lanes in yet.  There are some nice scenic sections through the ozarks, but east of Poplar Bluff is basically flat river bottom land.

I feel your pain! Texas for ever (10/20) or New Mexico/Texas (40) or god forsaken flat land Kansas (70), no insults to the the good folx from those places!

Without getting into the MANY places to experience along the way, 70 is loads of phunn!!!!!! Take a variety of riding gear, you can use it all along the way. From the desert to the high snowy mountains to the wind to the rain. Enjoy, wish i were goin' with ya!!!!!!!

Well,

If your not in a hurry do Route 66 to St louis From Arizona. A ton of history is still out there! Get a good quality updated Rte 66 map from any number of places. It Roughly follows interstate 40 so you can always jump on the freeway to make time. When you hit Oklahoma city it roughly follows Interstate 44 until St Louis.
