Back rest
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:41:44 PM »

Hello, has anyone purchased the HD adjustable backrest for there 10 CVO street glide. The bracket is to tall to put the seat back on. you must compress the seat so much that it wrinkles the leather. Dealer claims this is the only bracket and fits all touring models. Is this what we get with the new stuff made in China! Called HD customer support and they have no answer. Has anyone run into this problem yet? It looks like I will have to customize the bracket and re weld it to make it fit. The bracket fits perfect on my 2003 CVO Road King, much better quality on the 2003 parts. Especially the backrest pad :-X

I have the fixed bracket, and it does the same thing as yours is doing, but I need the riders backrest, so I live with it.  Doc

I have the non-adjustable backrest on my SESG and have had no issues with seat fitment or forcing the seat down on the bracket.   :nixweiss:

The fixed bracket is low enough and positioned correctly to line up with the whole in the seat?

I have the adjustable HD backrest and don't have that problem.  It's a tight fit, no doubt, but not much pushing on the seat :nixweiss:

The lower bracket under the seat pushes my seat forward and causes it to wrinkle up at the Harley Davidson embroidered lumbar support. There are no adjustment wholes in the bracket. It only fits in one spot???

On the non-adjustable backrest bracket, there are four mounting holes, so it does give you some flexibility in lining it up with the seat.  Mine is mounted in the most rearward position and it causes no clearance issues, wrinkiling, etc of the seat.

You can check this thread, I ended up with an '08 SG seat that doesn't have the issue and lines up very well. Now I have a stock seat sitting in the garage.

In that same thread you'll see a Mustang seat that looked like a good choice also.

Thanks for the thread. That is the same problem. I called Harley customer support. I am sending them the photo's. I think I may have my custom trim shop modify the seat. I already had them add a Velcro closure to the bottom of the backrest pad. Harley decided to just let it flap in the breeze.  At this point the back rest bracket is just going to rip open the access whole. For $31,000 everything should be perfect. check out the photo on my 03 CVO. Back rest fits perfect. They are definitely on the cheap at the motor company. It always catches up with you.  :D

It was all the way forward to show the stress put on the seat because it does not fit correctly! Even when it is in the retracted back position there is a overload of stress on the seat opening.

Look what I did.  Helps a little
