Not to rain on your parade dude, but these are cosmetic. They will not even stand up to the bike falling over while stopped without bending. The triple row saddlebag guards will at least hold up if you tip the bike over while standing still and obviously will prevent someone from bumping your bags in situations like Sturgis, Laconia and Daytona but they will not withstand going down while moving.Even the engine (crash) bar will not hold up when you lay a bike down. Read the label on it sometime.

OK, now that I've played rainman, at least let me say that the ones you picked out look good and add a certain period theme to the bike. So with that in mind enjoy your ride. Obviously you are making changes to the factory version to make it your own. That's what it's all about

PS   Forgot to say that this is something that irritated me about this model.

A non CVO Ultra Classic has all of these bars and fender tips and bumpers and stuff on it stock. They took if off on the Screamin Eagle model. I know I know cause it's a Screamin Eagle bike, but how is it an Ultra Classic if all of this stuff does not come on it. (beyond the fancy electronics)  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

My 2 pennies on these is if you buy them plan on replacing them as they will break. I had 3 sets go on my RK. The weld breaks where it connects to the crash bar [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

Really?  How weird.  I had a set on my last Road King for over three years.  They never showed a sign of weakness.  Even laid that bike down going through Paducah, KY.  According to the cop at the accident scene it slid on the front and rear guard for over 100 feet.  Neither collapsed.  Front bent back covering the brake pedal.  But the pretty little "nostalgic" rails were just fine.  Didn't buckle or bend a bit.

I'd thought about putting them on the red bike.  Talked to MikeW and Porthole (at least I think it was them) who had already done it and liked them.  I finally decided against it just because I wanted to more easily be able to lean out the saddlebags to get at the harness connector for the spoiler lights whenever I removed a bag.

Yep, all 3 broke within a year, Dealer replaced one set but I had to buy the other. (I sold the bike with one broke) Maybe a bad run? I have heard of others having them break as well, always at the weld [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Very strange Jim.  I've been trying to remember if I'd ever heard of another set breaking at that spot.  Can't remember any.  But that doesn't mean a lot anymore.  It sucks you had to buy the extras.  They're a really good look on the RK Classics.  Guess I'm just glad that I happened to get a good one.

In any case the saddle bags will never be completely protected.....

On my 2001 Ultra with the stock rails in place, some joker rolled back into the bike and his exhaust left a nasty dig and scratch in one of my bags. (Hit & Run) heard what happened from a bystander when I was leaving. Of course they didn't see the scratch so they never took down the plate number.  ::)

So off I went to the dealer for touch up paint.......... >:(

I think you have to take the painted strips that are between the fender and saddlebag off to put the saddlebag rails on.

Either that or notch them or get the chromed versions that have the notch already in them.  If I remember correctly they offer a primed version with the notch also that you could paint to match.  If adding rails would imagine most will either remove the filler strips or remove the originals and go to the chromed ones with the notch already there.

I will post pictures when I can but I went with the nostalgic saddlebag guard rails on my 2006 Haze. I had the dealer install them before I took delivery. I did have to remove the  painted saddlebag filler strips. I decided on the slotted chrome filler strips as well as the rear fender bumper with the LED light strip. I also had them install the chrome saddlebag lid wing tips and side LED lights to replace the factory reflector. I am waiting for delivery of the rear spolier LEDs also.
So far no problems but I only have about 530 miles on my bike.

you can take the stock ones, tape up the painted side real good and have a shop machine out the slot on a mill. Cheaper than having em painted since the paint is probably $100 a qt and unless your painter does his own custom mixing blending and owns a spectrometer, he'll have to buy a qt. from the local PPG or Dupont wholesaler. The only thing you need to do after they're milled is touch up the raw edge with some paint from the touch up kit Or go with the chrome or black ones as mentined above.

How come no one answered my question as to why the MoCo stripped off all of the stuff you guys are putting back on.
