Fullsac Install
« on: March 23, 2010, 10:40:19 PM »

Was installing my new 1.75" Fullsac baffles today.  Did my left side first and it went fine.  I went to do the right side and the attached photo is how my muffler looked after removing the heat shield.  Should I be concerned?

I would say YES!!  None of my bikes have ever blued a MUFFLER like that. That is some serious heat that far back.

Interesting.  My wifes 09 Ultra right side stock muffler has a similiar but much smaller heat ring about 6" forward of the tip, all the way around the muffler.  Very noticable bluing around the muffler, however the left had nothing.  96" & ran very hot in stock form.  Now runs very cool with my original 06 CVO mufflers with the 1.75" baffels & the Fulsac map.

Did the same install this past weekend and both mufflers had the exact same blue area. I always had a problem with the engine bogging down when I initially gave it gas. The service department could never find anything wrong, but it acted like it was killing it self. The problem is now gone with the install of the V&H Power Duels and 1.75 cores.

issue is the stock lean condition caused excesive heat=the discoloration. if you are doing the fullsac conversion you need to have it tuned. richen it up and lower the temps. research before you do anything and don't beleive all the dealer will tell you.

Not surprising to me considering the right side mufflers location to the cat, the exhaust gasses would cool slightly before going to the left.

After removing the original baffle this morning I found that there is no insulation left in the right baffle.  At 1100 miles I had the V&H Power Duals & SE Stage One A/C installed with SE Pro Super Tuner and setup on dealers dyno.  Currently have 19000 miles.  Going to see Doc and have TTS installed real soon.  Before I install the Fullsac baffle is there a recommendation for baffle insulation that might be available at one of the local building supply houses or is that a bad idea?  Thanks to everyone who has already replied from the photo.

Here is an EBay link for muffler packing
http://shop.ebay.com/ndangels/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

My original insulation was in good shape, I left it in place and added 2 wraps of the new insulation.  I wrapped it around the new cores, pushed it in, then moved the cored around to place the insulation out against the muffler, pulled the baffle out, used a round dowell to finish getting it in place then installed the baffles.

Thanks sklywag.  Can order, but need to add something to get me about 60 miles down to Doc's to have the TTS package installed.  If I install this in the right, should I go back and make the left the same or does it matter?

LarryB you hit the nail on the head.  Slow learner here.  Should have done the TTS instead of SE Pro Super Tuner, which was "Dealer" installed.  The muffler doesn't bother me as much as my thinking my "Dealer" was looking out for my best interest. DUH!!  Getting TTS installed.

I added the additional insulation to both mufflers.  I wanted to keep the heat off the cans as I don't want to run the heatshields

Just a little over 19,000 miles.  Have an appointment to install TTS next Monday and new baffle material ordered and should be here Friday/Saturday.  Will re-do both sides.
