Hey Jerry, I believe you are correct, I muffed it all up when I removed the battery. I wont do that again. Everything you said sounds right on. Hopefully there is someone out there who has the answer on how to either reassign the fobs with a series of switching the ignition on and off several times while standing on one foot singing a song from Sesame Street or something like that. I hope I don't have to bring it in to the dealer again. Seems like Ive been there more times with this bike than I did with my last six bikes.

Steve, Just got done reviewing the electrical diagnostics manual.  Like Jerry said, the only way to assign the HFSM (hands free security module) FOBs is with a Digital Technician.  Attached is a scan of the procedures for when a HFSM fails to disarm.  Although I don't think any of these are a factor, pay particular attention to the diagnostic tips.  Hope this helps.

Hey Jerry, sorry for my late reply. I haven't tried the repair yet (way too busy) but I did go for a little ride (not that busy). After about an hour or so, I shut off the bike for about a half hour and when I returned, the bike seemed to have disarmed via the fobs? I tried this a few times with different run times and off times with the same results. Hmmm. Me thinks the main battery is pooched? When I got home, I decided to test my theory. I left the ignition on with the engine not running for a few minutes, I watched as the volt meter slowly crept down to about 11 volts and Iverified same with my voltage meter. With that, I found the bike rearmed itself once the ignition was shut off all with the fobs present. I KNOW I gave the battery a load test and it passed right on the border of "good" and "weak". I then put it on the battery charger for a couple of days, gave it another load teat with good results and verified a reading of 13.5vdc.  Maybe the battery bad? I called the dealer, they want $250.00 for a $100.00 battery. Any aftermarket batts you or anyone can suggest? I may need the actual battery make and model in order to match it up with an aftermarket type. This must be the problem, its 3 yrs old and likely the cause if it corrects itself once the bikes alternator gives it a good charging. Any suggestions out there?

Regards,

The alarm battery is a 9V NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery, kept charged by the main battery...  The 9v is just a backup for times when someone might attempt to get at the bike when the main battery is disconnected.  When the 9v is dead the best tell tale is it'll stop chirping.  But the bike alarm system works if the 9v is dead.  You just don't have the backup function that comes if someone/something messes with main battery power.  BTW, this only affects the siren, not the main security system functions.
