Wednesday March 17, 2:30pm got fed up with wanting to ride so I grabbed as little as possible and took off to Delano, CA, Hwy 99 and Hwy 155. Uneventful to Delano as I took I-5 south and crossed over to Hwy 99.
My goal was to set out on Hwy 155 east to Lake Isabella Hwy 178 east to Hwy 395 north to the Olancha Hwy 190 east turnoff to Death Valley.
Delano is 29 miles north of Bakersfield. While having a very good burger at a place of choosing due to the local law enforcement in attendance I was given advice by the officers that I should totally avoid Hwy 155 due to it being a small winding road with steep elevations, that winds through the snow covered mountains and is closed whenever it snows. Besides it being winding there are areas where sand is on the road from icy conditions. (Sand was a warranted caution!) They recommended I take major 4 lane highways through Tahachapi all the way to Olanche. Other option not recommended but better than Hwy 155 was Hwy 178 out of Bakersfield. (Hwy 178, great but been there done that, Tahachapi no way!)
