Solo Spring Seat for CVO?
« on: March 29, 2010, 09:32:48 AM »

Hey all,

I've searched the board a bit and found nothing, and my local dealer hasn't been able to help me with this either.  Does anyone know of a solo spring seat that can fit on the '08 Springer?  Harley offers a spring seat as well as the touring spring seat, similar to what is on the Cross Bones, but on the specs it specifically says it does not fit the FXSTSSE/2/3 models.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448772542&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309043228&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309043228&bmUID=1269869243197&bmLocale=en_US

There's the link to the seat on the Harley website.

Thanks for any help or for pointing me in the right direction.

Check with C&C seats, I am getting a nice solo seat from them for my 08 springer. they even give a 10% discount for mentioning this site.

Let me introduce a new question:  Does anyone know exactly why a CVO softail springer seat and frame are different than a regular softail frame?  The only info I've been able to get from a guy at the local dealer is that the frame on my CVO bike is wider in the rear to accommodate the wider rear tire, so he's guessing the stock seat hardware won't fit my frame.

When I've got my seat off, there's an awful lot of "stuff" under the seat, such as the battery and what I think is the FI computer bolted to the rear fender.  Does anyone know if that array of "stuff" is the same on all other softail bikes?  Because I'd like to try to hide all of that so it's not so exposed to the elements since the underside of the spring seat is wide open.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks ice for the answer to that part of the question.  I'm slowly working towards getting this figured out!

The Tank chrome console dash is different also. Custom Softails are different. This causes a regular seat to set on top which changes the contour of the seat. In speaking with Sherry at Danny Gray we extended there seat tung and I adjusted it down a little. Then it worked nice. Following the contour of the Bike. I will try to post the pictures when I get back home.

I emailed Sherry at Danny Gray about doing a spring seat for this bike and her reply was that Harley does not make the hardware for it so they can't do it.  Bummer.

the 2010 cross bones has a 200 rear tyre, so i would find a friend who has that bike and ask him if he wouldnt mind helping you with a trial fit of his seat on your bikes, or atleast put the two bikes next to each other and take some careful measurements

The Danny Gray Butt Crack does fit....You have to adjust the front insert piece down just a little. Sherry is waiting for pictures when I return Home in a few days.

Are you saying the Danny Gray Butt Crack fits a 2009 CVO Springer (FXSTSSE3)?     If so, what are the "adjustments" you have to make to the "front piece"?

It seems to me like that "butt crack" seat would press right on your tail bone and hurt like hell after a while. I would love to put a solo seat on my 08 FXSTSSE, even a spring seat, but that Danny Gray thing looks like it would just hurt after a few hundred miles.

I hope this helps. I put a harley solo springer seat on my 08 cvo anniversary.  everything is the same as on the crosbones. i didall this early in 08 so you will save a few bucks as the price for the seat has come down since then. There are 3 to choose from. I like them alot and no fatigue after an 8 hour ride. See you on down the road. Only springers

It is my understanding that the ECM on the FXSTSSE2 will interfere with the seat pan on most after-market seats, including the ones in Harley's custom seat program.  That's supposedly the reason that many show except FXSTSSE2.  I haven't paid attention to the other year models since mine's an '08.  I've looked high and low for one that will yield more passenger comfort without destroying the lines of the bike.
