Interesting Logic Code in the ECM
« on: March 29, 2010, 03:00:00 PM »

After a little weekend maintenance on the red bike the last thing I had to do last night was reset the lash in the stepper cable for the cruise control.  That's one of those tasks you initiate through the handlebar controls and ignition switch by doing several different switch activations in a specific order.

First time through I must've got it wrong because all the slights suddenly started blinking fast and slow and then eventually the horn tooted twice.  Kind of like punctuation for its little spasm.

Thought it was kind of cool and also thought I might know where I'd messed up the switch sequence so tried it again.  Sure enough got a sequence of lights and then toot toot.

The lights seemed to be almost a pattern.  So wondering if some software engineer might have dinking around on his break one day I grabbed a pad and tried to initiate it all again.  Got a morse sequence of:

.... -.. / ... ..- -.-. -.- ... followed by two toots of the horn!  How cool is that.

Tried it on the Road Glide but it didn't work on the Marelli bike.  Don't know if it would work on later bikes either.  But on the 05 Delphi bike the right (or wrong) use of the switches can get you a morse code display that reads "HD sucks" then two blows of the horn!

Ok, absolutely none of that was true.  But if someone tried it I'll laugh until I wet myself!

Dang it Don, if you are that bored why don't you go over to my garage and wire up that GPS unit.  All the parts are there.   :huepfenlol2:

Come on Don, you need newer material.  I've heard similar stories, for years.  In fact, the first time I heard this one, I was too little to laugh so I just rolled over and pooped!

I didn't say it was a good effort; just an effort.  Guy has to gauge his audience occasionally doesn't he :huepfenlol2: ?

Louis, just because it was lame didn't mean it needed to be obvious :huepfenlol2: .
