Extreme Heat
« on: April 02, 2010, 04:32:51 PM »

Well we got out of our first ride today through the mountains. The temp today was around 90 degress. After we got going down the interstate I started becoming very uncomfortable. The heat coming off the rear cylinder was cooking my rear, the seat was so hot it was almost unbareable. I was not sure if I needed to remove the lower fairings in high temps to circulate more air around the engine or there may be some insulation from under the seat that may be missing. The ambient air gauge was reading 120 degrees.

Any thoughts on this would be great....

I pull my lowers off in the summer.  I also run the Kuryakyn Saddle Shields which help a lot.  There are others out there but I like the look and fit and they work.

You are on the right track by removing the lowers, I had the same issue, really bad for my wife on the back. As soon as the temp hits the 50-60 degree range they come off. Another really good addition are the RJ orginals, they are made to redirect the heat away from you and the passenger. You can call and talk with RJ himself, and ask any question you may think of, very up front and honest. Love em, I had the HD sheilds first. realize now it was a huge waste.

The kuryakyn saddle shields are a great addition they really do help. Here in Ohio the lowers are only on Nov thru March just in case we get a chance to take a winter ride you appreciate the extra heat then.
