Engine Miss
« on: April 05, 2010, 06:51:44 PM »

I thought I would ask this question, not sure if this is a problem or if I am being to anal about my scooter. I fired it up to leave work and I thought it sounded a little funny. When I took off and shifted up to 30 it felt like it had a wierd viberation. I got home and was messing around and when I throttle up to 1800-200o the engine is running rough causing a viberation. I pulled the plugs and IMO they looked pretty good for 1000 miles. I was wondering if I had an enjector problem would it throw check engine light. It seemed to run fine this morning other than the the front cylinder sounds to be firing 2-1 of the rear cylinder. The bike has gone from running a couple times a year to everday. Any thoughs. It has Rinehart true duals and a Power Commander.

Check the wires to the injectors.  Somewhat of a common problem due to the "vibration" of the rubber mounted motor - especially if the front motor moung is going bad.  Some of the injector wires were routed "too tight" and the vibration causes them to pull loose.  Pull back the insulation and check the ends to make sure they are connected.

If it is and injector the ECM should be throwing a code, even if it is intermittant. Are there stored codes? (engine light comes back on after start for a few seconds)

The first thing i would do if there is not is remove the Power commander and see if the problem is still there.

I will try that this evening, we rode last night and it just seemed to lack power. Can the power commander just be unplugged to test ride to see it the problem goes away?

If you unplug the PC, the bike will be just the way it came from the factory-so ride-yes.

Good deal, thanks for the information. One other thing I have noticed is I am getting a pop from the exhaust every time I let off the throttle to shift, it seems to be more from the rear cylinder.

Well I pulled the power commander tonight and ran it on the stock ECM. I still have the engine viberation @ 1800 to 2500 rpm. I did find out the power commander that has been installed is the power commander III. I have to take it back to the dealer for the 4th time to get my radio issues resolved so I will have them investigate the situation.

I have found the pop or backfire from the exaust to be air leaks, not sure if that would lead to a power loss like you are getting.
