Breather Blowing Oil
« on: April 06, 2010, 02:00:26 PM »

I have a 2005 Ultra Classic with a 103" Screamin Eagle Stage 1 motor that leaks oil from the air cleaner to the cam cover (only after I park). It's not severe but it's an annoying problem. What can I do to stop this from happening?

See if lowering your oil level to 1/4 to 1/2 qt lower helps. I have a 08 SEUC with the Heavy Breather and I keep my oil level down and I get no oil in the breather or up behind motor.

make sure you have a back plate that vents directly into the throttle body. most do but some didnt.

My SE Stage I air cleaner on my '08 CUSE3 vents toward the air cleaner, not directly into the throttle body (as it should).  I run 1/2 quart low but still have to wipe out the filter every 500 miles.  I get about a half teaspoon of oil - I just clean it frequently so not to soak the element prematurely.  Also, I swap my elements with my spare about every 1500 miles and wash it out in hot, soapy water and rinse in hot water.  Every bike has some idiosyncracy, I guess.
If there is a Stage I that somehow would vent into the throttle bore directly, I would like to see it.

I run about half a quart low on oil for that same reason. Last week I changed oil and forgot to do that and added all four quarts. On my run up to Cambria the bike was puking and dripping drops of oil, more so when I got on it or hit elevations. By the next day the drips subsided. I have my breather hose routed straight down below the frame so it drips on the ground and not the bike.
