SE110 Now I am scared!
« on: April 08, 2010, 03:44:26 PM »

Well I bought my first bike in May 2009 mothers day weekend a nice new 09 Fatboy. I liked the bike but realized quickly I needed something bigger for my large ass.

I made the mistake of visiting the local HD dealer and FELL IN LOVE with a cobalt 2007 CVO SE Roadking. After getting hurt on my trade :( and paying 27k for the 07 with 5000 miles (DOING NO RESEARCH) I happily rode my new baby home.

Well you know what they say about a FOOL.

I now have put about 1800 miles on the bike and no issues but after reading all the forums I am scared. Can I really expect all these issues I am seeing on my 110se? Or are some of them good to go?

Is there anything I should do to be proactive? I did buy the three year warranty....

Just stay on Harley and it was good that you bought the extended warranty. I love my 08 SEUC and after two years of love/hate relationship with Harley it's running awesome!!

I beleive you have already begun to be proactive with purchasing an extended warranty.  :2vrolijk_21:

The first thing I would suggest is to have your dealer verify that the Engine Upgrade program was performed on the bike.  He can verify it through H-D with the VIN, if it wasn't done at his dealership.  The deadline for having this done free of charge is July 27, 2010.

The next thing I would suggest, if the bike is still running a stock calibration, is getting it tuned to reduce the high peak combustion temps.  That extreme heat is what exacerbated many of the issues with the early engines.

Sure is a shame to have to do that after all the money you spend for the bike, you then have to buy an insurance policy to protect yourself from poor quality.  If I ran my stamping plant that way, I would be out of business in no time.

I would have looked for a later year, but like fools you know what they say about hindsight.   Mine makes enough bad noises that I will be rebuilding it before long.  Nothing major, just the crankshaft, bearings, cylinders...pistons...valve guides and seals....uh, compression releases...maybe the oil pump.  I agree with the comment that having to buy an extended warranty to cover shoddy engineering and build is ridiculous.  Would you hire an electrician who says for an extra thousand he'll come back and fix his mistakes - if you can prove he did it?

You bought a sweet bike and the extended warranty should provide you with peace of mind. Once you tweak the engine to make it breathe better, it should run cooler and you'll love its performance.  Congrats.  Its going to be a fun simmer.

I agree Jerry, up to a point.
Adding XIED devices is the simple inexpensive fix to get the AFRs in line. www.nightrider.com

It is my thought that the cam, port, and exhaust system are being leveraged to act as an afterburner and lower emissions, as part of the measured total PPM of CO, NOx, HC. So the chamber burn may not be that hot but the heat is a secondary burn situation. Just a passing thought and I could be challenged easily if someone knows more on the topic.
