Neck bearing adjustment-2000 SERG
« on: April 11, 2010, 03:21:44 PM »

does the front frairing need to be removed to make adjustments to the star adjuster? I have the instrument housing removed and have loosened pinch bolts and top plate locking nut, I can not see the the star adjuster. I have the Snap on adjusting tool, but cant get a clear view where to access the star adjuster.

Not sure if this will help.  It's a link to a Snap-On page that shows the tool in use.  It does show how/where it would lay in place to get at the adjuster.

I've got the tool also but have yet to put it to use.  So can't offer a practiced advice.  Hope the link helps.

i have seen this pic too, it appears as though they removed the entire fairing...both inner and outer, was hoping that someone with a RG had done this task and didnt have to remove the inner fairing

Success...was able to line the tool up betwwen the tank and the fairing, the handle end was at about the hieght of the cigarette lighter...a couple of forward taps with a small ball pien on the end of the tool moved the star adjuster just enoungh to bring the tightness into spec, the only parts required to be removed were instrument guage cluster and the left side nacell panel. was able to get to the top 1 1/2" nut remove it...loosen pinch bolts on bottom tree and make needed adjustment, and preform fall away test...only took about an hour to do. Will be changing fork fluid tonight, using the vacuum pump method...so will only be a twenty minute task...Cant imagine how much my local stealership would have soaked me for this little job!!! :orange:And of history would repeated itself, they would not have got the job done right first try anyways......
