Heated hand Grips
« on: April 13, 2010, 01:22:10 PM »

I was driving down the road today with the heated grips on and the one on the throttle slid off. Looks like the glue holding it on melted. Anyone had this problem? I shut off the heat and put the grip back on. It's holding with the heat off.

I was in the dealer for a service and they replaced mine, said it was loose  :nixweiss:

I just said ok, and didn't think to much of it.  but now, maybe we should be looking out for this problem.

 Thank

This is an on going issue so just keep an eye out on your grips. Some Tech's know how to install them correctly and some hit or miss the installation. :nixweiss:

My throttle grip has already been replaced once. Tried to get them to replace the pair, because the left grip rubber insert was wearing down and looked like it needed replaced as well. In the end they only warrantied the throttle grip. (It was slipping off as you rode down the street, and I complained about it.) To replace the left grip, including the installation is over $300 at my dealer, due to the heating element being included. Plus, the wait time to get it.(Has been a backordered item for awhile now) JohnT.

The heated grips on my '08 were both replaced in Nov. '08 about 6 mos after I got it.  About 6 mos ago the throttle grip was slipping off and the dealer replaced it.  Said the glue was defective.  No problem since.

After reading this thread, yesterday I looked at my throttle and found my grip had slid off by at least an inch. I went to the dealer, they took one look at it, and wrote it up and ordered the part (just the one side). What was strange about this was the tech asked me " do you counter steer"  :huepfenlol2:

This made me think about being in a turn in a cyn. and have my grip come off in my hand  :nixweiss:

My big Question is :  How could this not be a safty issue ?

I called HD Friday and reported it as a safety issue. They opened a case for me.

Does anyone know what type of glue the dealer uses?  I'm at least 75 miles from the closest dealer and would just as soon fix it myself.  My throttle grip slid at least an inch and half before I noticed it.

My bike will be in shop next week for the left side grip (chrome bubbling 3rd time) and right side (sliding off 2nd time).

Come to find out, the grips are made by 2 different vendors as stated by the dealer. You think they would've solved this issue by now, but maybe not. Dealer has to make money somehow...LOL
