Installed Fatshotz, not satisfied....
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:08:54 PM »

I bought a set of SE Fatshotz slip-ons on 04/01 and I finally got the time to put them on tonight...  not happy with them....  They don't seem much louder than my stock mufflers that came on my SESG, just a little deeper sound.

I heard a "Nightstick" single on a 2010 SG at the dealership and it made a huge difference.  Maybe the SESG already had more sound that the regular SG so the fatshotz didn't make that much difference... just deeper tone, not much louder.

Now what to do???  Hmmmm   :nixweiss:

I feel your pain.  I installed Boom Cans and they are not loud at all, louder than stock though for sure.  Maybe the cat is quieting things down for us?

I added FatShotz to my ultra and per Supertrapp added 12 more disc per side. Got a little more tone but not big sound. Installed Rush true duals with ceramic coating and came home and had to pull additional disc off. Almost too loud but only when you get in to it. Can listen to radio at 80 if your cruising.

IDK???  Thinking about trying the Vance & Hines Hi-Output Slip-ons or Rhinehart if my dealer will take the Fatshotz back?!  I think the V&H look great in pics, more of the look I'm going for because I like the look of the stock mufflers, just definately need more sound, I hate hearing the valve train and tranny gear noise over the exhaust.

I went with the V&H Dresser Duals and HO Slip-on's, and couldn't be happier.  Has quite a bark when I jump on it, but mello's out going down the highway.  Also put the PCV w/ auto tune in and the bike runs very well.

I would recommend that set up to anyone that is looking for a better sound, w/out loosing performance.

I was after volume/tone over performance overall.  It rocks when I want it to, and mellos out nicely on the highway :bananarock:

With that said, I've been very please with the performance that we have gained with the set up and the addition of the PCV w/ autotune.  I've only got 300 miles on the bike, so I need some more miles before I go in and update the map again.  Will probably do that around the 1,000k service.

I returned the fatshotz for full credit this evening after work.   :2vrolijk_21:  My dealer is trying to talk me into buying some Cobra 4-inch slip-ons.  I told him I'd have to hear them and see them 1st before I did anything.  Some guy is getting them put on tomorrow at my dealership, if I get a chance to run down there when he is picking up his bike I'll get to see them and hear them.  IDK???  The Bassani's look nice.  I'd like to see them and hear them in person.  Dennis Kirk has a really nice looking set of Bassani's on their website.

I'm really thinking about the V&H Hi-Output slip-ons with a full dresser dual head pipe or power dual pipe, thinking the sound is getting choked by the cat in the stock head pipe....  plus I like the pics I've seen of the Hi-Outputs through the bag openings.

In the short time I've had the bike, I've had a lot of people look at it, and take a real close look at the exhaust.  They like it, and it get's their attention when I crack the throttle a bit 8)

Gut the Cat makes a big difference when I installed my boom cans I got a nice baratone but not a huge increase in volume. Next step V&H Power Duals (No CAT) big improvement as loud as I'd like without complaints from the neighbors. Nice and deep throaty growl! No issue with the stereo especially after adding the Hogpods!

The crossover pipe on the Power Duals is also less restrictive than the stock as the cross under pipe is round and larger diameter than the flattened stock unit. Thus with more airflow I get equal output from either pipe.

This leads me to believe it to be superior cutting open the factory pipes gutting and re-welding them.

Just 2 cents

100% correct....the sound to my ears on my bike is a "low rumble" and more than loud enough for me.  I did have my engine tuned however.  TTS on a dyno.   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
