2008 SERK handling improvement ideas please!
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:09:10 AM »

I've been going over numbers in my head and trading my bike is just not a good plan. I will have to give 10 grand difference to trade to a 2010 SESG and I just don't see it. I really like the things I have done to my bike, I am just really impressed with the new frame's handling.  So, for way less than 10 grand I think I can drastically improve the handling of the SERK and be happy.

With that being said, can I get some ideas for handling improvements that will bring it near the level of the new frame bikes?

Morning!!!

I have the 2008 SERK as well and love her!  But hated the handling and came close to trading her in as well...

What I did was the following:

Ohlins rear adjustable shocks  http://motorcyclemetal.com/gpage32.html  item #3.  These are the same shocks that Ducati and others run stock.  Howard sets them exactly for you.  They are beyond words!!!  If you have the leather bags,  the ones from TRAXXION will NOT fit (even tho they are great shocks)

On the front I did the Progressive Monotube  System (see the suspension forum here)

So for about $1100.00,  the bike rides better then a 2010 (numerous 2010 owners have told me that) and performs as close to a sport bike as a bagger can (rider permitting)

I am in Illinois too,   so you are more than welcome to take a look at her any time (near chgo)

My 07 had some rear steer issues. I installed a ride-Str8 http://www.ridestr8.com/

it helped tighten it up but added some vibration..Sounds like you are making it happen...Those montubes, are they that good?

I was planning on getting a brace,  but after the monotubes the wobble went away... For $250,  you cant go wrong.... My dealer was so impressed I think they are going to stock them...

?? I don't think the '08 leather bags are any different than the '07s, and Bitubos (the ones Traxxion sells) fit fine on mine.

Hey Bro, If you can send some pic's of your bike from the rear showing the Bitubos and a good shot of the Monster Ovals, I have been thinking about putting the MO's on my 07 SERK, just wondering how they look.  :2vrolijk_21:

Please call up TRAXXION,  because of the external reservoir there is no physical way for them to fit into the single groove of the back of the bag...

They are great,  but cant fit

Okay, I and the others that have Bitubo shocks from Traxxion on their SERKS must not have figured out that they can't fit?

Anyway, I'll see about the photos of the Monster Ovals and Bitubos I imagine I have on my bike.

I dont want to stir anything up,  but I did order a pair of the Bitubos from Traxxion.  Because of the fitting of the leather bags and the molding on the back they cant fit.  There is a single grove molded on the back to accommodate the stock shock.  Unless you cut the back of the bag open,  the reservoir for the Bitubo does not have a place to fit.  I can only vouch for the 08 SERK w/ Leather bags..  I wish I could have kept them,  but they leather bags wont go on... Look at the back of your leather bags.. You will see a single semi-vertical groove.. That is where the shock sits.  The hard bags have more clearance...
