Installing Fullsac set-up this weekend
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:59:41 PM »

Any tips on installing the fuel map upload from Steve?  I have read the instructions in the tuning guide a few times but I am just a little confused as to when you select File-Program ECM, where do you select the Fullsac fuelmap ( I currently have it saved to my desktop).  The prior step in the guide discusses the edit comments function regarding existing MT7 files via the updater.  Maybe it is fairly obvious once I perform the actual install, but the instruction guide does not seem that intuitive.

Thanks!

First you start the Mastertune software.  Then you click on File-Open, where you can brouse your computer for Fullsac's map.  You click on Fullsac's map which will be loaded into the Mastertune software.  Then you then click on File-Program ECM and follow the instructions.  Make sure you save a copy of your original map in your Harley per the instructions before you load the new one.  It really is quite simple once you try it.

I just uploaded the Fullsac map to the ECM last weekend. Remember, that you should save the motorcycle's original HD factory map before loading the Fullsac map to the ECM. There is a ton of information that can be printed out for quick reference of you can make a copy to your laptop's desktop. Good luck

Sorry to come of as needy guys but two more questions:

Any advice on preventing the x-pipe from coming in contact with the rear brake pedal?  When I torgue the header nuts it slightly touches.
When installing the heatshields, is the forward hose clamps supposed to slide between the welded on tabs on the x-pipe?  Does anyone have pics of the heatshields installed?  Mine look a little funky.

Other than that, the install has gone well.

Thanks,

Joe

Mine did that and it was possible to loosen things up, move it slightly, and retorque to not touch the pedal.  It sure vibrated a lot before it was fixed though.

I put my shields on top of the tab, not through.

Not real sophisticated  but I just  put a flat screwdriver between the clevis of the rear brake and the X pipe and pried it back 1/16 of an inch.  Problem solved.

In case you didn't see previous thread on installing x pipe, be careful not to over tighten hose clamps on rear heat shield.  They dent real easy where they are attached to the shield if over tightened.

I actually found success in holding and pulling the pipe up and slightly outward when torquing down at the head nuts.  As for the rear hose clamps and denting from over torquing, this is actually quite common even coming from factory build I have come to find out.  Dealer will not replace under warranty however I did not push the issue as in the past I have just replaced the whole exhaust set-up anyway.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

The clevis pin on the fancy CVO brake pedal can be a contact area. Its usually not pushed all the way through for some reason? The fix is simple. Before installing the X Pipe the clevis pin can easily be pushed all the way through with a few taps of a small hammer. The non CVO Baggers have the standard brake pedal and no issues with the clevis pin hanging out. Just one of those Harley things.

I finished the full installation today and must say that I am quite pleased.  Pulling out the stock cores was not as easy as I anticipated but we got through it.  I also had a minor panic moment when I started the bike, everything was going well, and then the bike started to smoke and I had to quickly kill the ignition.  After thinking through it, I figured it might be some type of lubricant or oily burnoff from the new header pipers and that is exactly what is was.  Just letting the bike run 30 seconds or so cleared that up.

My friend (and HD mechanic) was very impressed with the system and thought it to definitely to be the best aftermarket solution.  Also, anytime the garage doors are up and I am working on the bike, my neighbor who rides a Heritage Classic has to come by and critique my work.  He was quite jealous of the sound and performance improvement as he used to bust my balls about the pathetic stock exhaust.

My only potential screw-up was with the original ecm file.  I saved it as suggested and proceeded with uploading the new MT7 file.  When I was finished with my work I wanted to view the original ecm file and noticed that it had a MTE file extension and the Mastertune software would not let me read it.  I did not realize that you could not view this file at the time, so I changed the extension to MT7 and thought that would work until I called Steve and he informed me that the original is not viewable.  My only concern is that now my computer only recognizes the original ecm file as an MT7 and will not let me convert it to an MTE.  Is this an issue or if I ever had to restore the original should this still work?

What tool did you use to break the welds? My Fullsac kit is on the way and I plan on using a Dremel tool for removing the stock baffles.

You can change the file extension back to .MTE and you can still use it to restore from.  Just changing the file's name does not alter the contents of the file, it just controls what programs think they can read it.  You may need to change the file extension as a full administrator or enable viewing file extensions in explorer in order to change it back.  Just Windows being 'helpful' and saving you from yourself!
