True, but to have to pay  $300-$400 @ 1000 miles for a oil change and to look for a boner that a MOCO employee made and a dealer that charged you to prep "PDI"  fee, should of found, should about cover everything......... Right.  How many have had a simple problem within 500-1000 miles after you got your bike.  :nixweiss:  Ive always had the 1000 mile serv included or free with each purchase. Down side of the the oil changes is I dont use Syn Chit 2 oil. I use it to "douche" the cases and I dumped it after I get the bike home.  :2vrolijk_21:

Ok,

Got the 1,000 service done in  Conneaut Lake , PA

at Street Track - N - Trail HD

They call it "Basic Service"
Oil filter Chrome
AMSOIL Oil  :)
Gasket
O-ring
Parts 92.67
Labor 167.28

Total - AS QUOTED PRIOR-  $ 259.95  :huepfenjump3:

FYI-labor rate is $65.00

looks like PA cost of doing business is allot fairer then the HD Dealers in Fla  :carrot:

amen to the 'glorified' oil change comment...this "service" notion is crap.  $300-$400!!  What a crock!  A friend of mine had his wife's Harley Softail "serviced" before taking a trip to my neck of the woods here in the Smokies and found her rear brake making noise.  We looked and the pads were gone!!  Service, indeed!  Service for Suckers, I say!! >:(

Kind of a strange labor charge; 167.28 / 65.00 = 2.57353846 hours.  Most places I've ever dealt with tend to go with hours and tenths. ::)

If you think about it, 2.5 hours to drain and replenish fluids is just a little on the ridiculous side.  And just like those places who charge $400 or more for a 1000 mile "service", I'll bet these folks don't do the entire checklist either.  So while this place isn't as big a crook as those other places, I'd say they are still making a killing for a simple oil change.

My recommendation is, if you have any mechanical ability at all, buy the shop manual and the few basic tools needed to do this stuff yourself.  Even counting the cost of the manual and tools, you will spend much less doing it yourself, and you will also know whether or not the stuff on the checklist was even looked at.  Or if you aren't the type who wants to try this yourself, find a good independent shop where they don't have the Harley mindset.
