Zumo 660 Power
« on: May 02, 2010, 08:34:18 PM »

Just purchased a Zumo 660 and was wondering where you connected the power. I'm thinking the Accessory Switch would work well. Curious what others have done.

Some have used the back of the cigarette lighter to hard wire it, or you can get/use a cigarette lighter plug and get power from your cigarette lighter, you can wire it in to your ACC switch but then you will need to turn that on before it's hot (not hot by turning on ignition).

I wired mine as per the Harley instructions http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Media/downloads/Service/isheets/-J04902.pdf to [29b] an unused power supply that is switched. Look for it taped to your headlight wiring harness.  :2vrolijk_21:

This is the power source I used. It's already available inside the fairing, right near the headlight. You can just plug into it with a spade (I used a waterproof spade connector) and you'll have power whenever the ignition is on.

Thanks for the replies...and thank you for the link Hawg.

FYI: I bought the handlebar mount. I wonder why Harley wants you to connect the power for this mount at the fuse box? Sure makes sense to use connections available under the fairing...plus it's a whole lot easier.

I too used the handle bar mount from Harley, had it chromed, the spacers as well. The Zumo kit comes with the correct length stainless machine screws, I found the screws that come with the Harley Bracket are too short. I also needed 4 extra stainless washers to space the mount far enough away from the hydraulic clutch reservoir. It all came together very well, i shrink wrapped the headphone, mic, and usb connectors as I never plan on using these connections while riding anyway. I have pictures on another post here somewhere if I can find them I will post the link.  :2vrolijk_21: found it...
