First Rain Ride on the SESG
« on: May 02, 2010, 08:35:49 PM »

Dealer had an event yesterday and I had volunteered to help cook and serve hot dogs.  I wanted to ride the bike something aweful because I love showing this baby off.  As soon as I rolled it out of the garage it started raining.  Wife asked me if I wanted to take the car instead.  I said "nope, get on" and we headed 80 miles to Stillwater, OK.  It rained lightly the whole way and my baby went from being spotless (I shined it up Friday night) to being dirtier than she's ever been in a matter of minutes.  It was good fun though.  The dealer went ahead and replaced my outer fairing and right side panel since it was there and they were putting my gauge nuts back on (I'd lost 4 of them and all the others were loose).  I had a blast at the event, met a lot of cool people and got a lot of OOOHs and AAAHs on my scoot parked out front.  Despite the rain and the 3 hour detail job today this was a pretty fun weekend of riding.  Weather was awesome today so I had to parade that clean peach around the country side all afternoon. :D

I'll bet it was every bit of a 3 hour detail job!

I think I did a rough wash with Meguiars car wash and a microfiber mitt.  Then a fine wash with some microfiber rags and just water.  Then I went over it again with a damp microfiber rag and a dry microfiber rag to ensure there were no water spots.  I did the last step on a section at a time and the first two on the whole bike.  Then I waxed the new fairing and right side panel.  For as much work as it was, I had fun.  It's almost zen like going over something so thoroughly and delicately.  I think I became one with the Rum Runner.
