Passenger Backrest
« on: May 04, 2010, 11:44:26 AM »

2010 FLHXSE....the stock passenger backrest looks good but is hardly what you would call functional.  Want to get a taller sissy bar which actually provide some level of support for my wife's back.  Looking at the HD catalog it appears the only option for the 4 pt docking system is P/N 52627 Detachable Passenger Sissy Bar Upright (Std height) on pg 370.  The tall detachable upright on pg 371 shows only fits 97-08 FLHX.  Any other options I'm missing?  Any aftermarket options for the 4pt docking system?

The HD backrest you mentioned does not fit the 4 point system.  Please don't ask me how I know.

If it helps, here's a photo of the backrest installed with a Mustang solo with matching 13.5" pillion. The backrest is plenty tall enough IMHO...

My wife agrees, the stock backrest SUCKS.  I think it looks bad ass, but it was starting to hurt my ears.

52627-09 - That's what you need.  I'm trying to get a good deal on one, but LSHD1 is back ordered and all the d-bag dealers in OKC are MSRP.  We're not allowed to sell below MSRP sir...right....

I ordered all this:

       1  52627-09  UPRIGHT, STD, DETACHABLE, TOURING   @ $143.96 = $143.96
       1  52825-05  BACKREST MOUNTING PLATE   @ $36.76 = $36.76
       1  52886-98C  PASSENGER BACKREST PAD, SMOOTH   @ $79.96 = $79.96
       1  54205-09  DOCKING HARDWARE KIT, 4 POINT   @ $119.96 = $119.96

Got the docking kit installed today.  Had to torch the bolts to get them off the stock 2 point kit.  I was skeered to say the least, but my little torch did the trick without issue.  I got the back plate to match the stocker and the new pad is FRIGGIN HUGE.  She's gonna love it if I can find the backrest.  I'm gonna call Jenny tomorrow and see if I can get it on its way at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I`m in the same process. Got to make it more comfy for my wife when she decides to come along for a ride. From what I understand there is no CVO Street Glide style passenger backrest pad as the 51839-10 Rider backrest. I guess the 52886-98C Passenger backrest pad will be the one which looks most alike. Will there be a visible difference in the color between the 51839-10 (Rider backrest) and the 52886-98C (Passenger backrest pad)? The SESG stock seat is a bit greyish (I`ve kept it). I would think the 52886-98C backrest pad is more blackish??  :-\

I`m also aiming for the standard height sissy bar upright.

I was confused.  Happens to us old guys.  The backrest you guys are talking about does fit when one uses the correct docking points on top of the shocks.  Duhhhhhhh. Mea Culpa.

My 52886-98C pad matches the seat very well.  I'm happy I went with it for my secondary pad.  I got the upright and a stealth rack on the way from Jenni today.

Follow on questions on the detachable backrest std height (52627-09)??? How much higher is it than the stock 2010 SESG passenger backrest? Can you use the the stock passenger pad that came with the bike on the the higher (std height) backrest?

See my photo above. The backrest is much higher. I doubt the stock pad would fit, but even if it did would look silly.

I wish I had seen this before I got the Mustang touring one-piece.  I also replaced the shorty sissy bar for the regular one.  Too mush $ invested in seating now to change,  but I dig the look of the solo seat on the SESG!
